Hello All -
I was at the local flea market yesterday, and spotted a metallic silver Miele Swing upright -
It looked to be in excellent shape except for some scuffs in the hood - I asked how much - They said $15.00 (which seemed odd to me) - I Asked if it worked, and they said yes -

Well…. Thank god it was only $!5.00 - It does work, but the suction motor screams like a banshee - I guess the bearings are shot - which is strange because It has no rust on it - Very little dust in it - great suction and looks like new - Just screams - really, really loudly !!!

Since I had the same vacuum a few years ago, I know it is not supposed to sound like this -
Before I donate it to my Local Miele Guy, I thought I would see if any one has a used suction motor they want to sell - I hate to chuck the thing, but thought I would clean it up and give it to someone who could use it-

I usually always luck out at the flea market, but I guess not this time !!!

Hi David - I thought of that possibility and tore it completely down -
Clean as could be - only a light coating dust on the motor -

Tom - My Local Miele guy told me that the warranty was only for the original owner - I did tell him the truth that I got it at a flea market -

I have to go on line and check the warranty and see what the website says - If there is a disclaimer about being only to the original owner -

Like I said - I like to find a bargain and give them away to someone I know that could use it - It just annoyed me that a vacuum that new (serial number plate says 03/2012) had a motor that went bad -

I may try playing dumb and calling a different dealer to see what they say -

As a side note, I think my Prima is coming tomorrow - According to the UPS website if it shipped on Friday, it should deliver tomorrow !!!

Vortex

Dan,

An old friend of mine from my days with Lux is a Miele dealer here. He sold one of the red Miele uprights to a commercial biotech lab here that had some carpeted hallways in their offices. End result was about six Vortex motors in 18 months and a real PIA for him. They have had very good luck with the Windsor/Sebo machines that replaced it. I would find a motor wholesale and fix it. My buddy is starting to see motor failures in the canisters as well that he never saw before with the heavy Miele/Lamb style motors of the Stars and Moon series. like Lux and others, motor quality is not what it once was.
