Has anyone else seen the new Miele canisters yet?

The new L1 certainly looks interesting, I'll be looking forward of seeing it up close in the near future. The M1 is basically the newer version of the C3. And the S1 is basically the newer version of the Compact C2 canisters they've discontinued but supposedly brought back. If only they'd bring back the uprights and bagged stick vacs because I think they made a mistake getting rid of those two.

When did they ever discontinue Compact C2?

It's been a mainstay of "the vacuum aisle" since at least 2012, I'm pretty sure there's still one there now.

It looks like Miele took notice of the problem with the sliding dust bag collar every time you open up the bag compartment. They are really highlighting the fact that the new Guard series has a new dust bag dock that does not let the bag collar slip up every time you open the compartment to check it. This is a very important improvement.

Here in the states, there are no more Compact C2 canisters available left on the market unless you go looking for a NOS model. You can even look on Miele's USA website and see they aren't listed anymore.

The new Miele canisters also have a “2-in-1” upholstery nozzle + crevice tool. Would like to see a video if this in action, before I make a judgement….but I am always skeptical about these “combo” tools.

Hmm....

I think the L1 looks kinda ugly, and almost cheapened like one of those Swedish electrolux badged machines we had. I also question why it has app connectivity, I can understand that for a robotic machine but for an actual corded vacuum it just seems....ridiculous. I know there's a trend towards connected appliances and all I'm just like why?

Those icons on the canister control panel are so small, there is no way the user will be able to press the correct button (including the cord rewind button) with their foot while standing up straight. Unless Miele provides special eyeglasses with the vacuum. Not good.

I don’t even like the name: Guard? Kind of falls flat.

Is there no separate dusting brush to attach to the end of the wand?

Well, at least they kept the C3 and gave it a more secure bag docking system. They changed the upholstery nozzle on the C3: seems smaller with a shorter neck.

It looks like they are coding the new Guard series as Small (S1), Medium (M1) and Large (L1).

I think these new L1 canisters are replacing the Compact C1 line all together.

There are 3 types of Guard

L1, S1 and S1.

Wish they made an upright that was mains powered.

Less hefty than the U1/S7 too.
With a bag!

I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again: Miele should develop a lightweight Oreck clone carpets-only upright to pair with their great canisters. Make it quieter than an Oreck and better at carpet cleaning too. The Oreck style of upright vacuum was first invented in West Germany by the McDonald company. So it would be a natural to have Miele continue that tradition with the latest technology.

They did made a lightweight upright, actually two versions but one could be equipped with an electric power nozzle called the Swing. Definitely alot lighter weight than the S7/U1 and also better than any Oreck in my opinion.

I don't think Miele would ever make a lightweight direct air upright in all of honesty. It just wouldn't make any sense to me of why they should, based on the marketing point of view. SEBO is already off to a slow start of the Softcase uprights, that I think is the best you'll ever get if you want a modern German lightweight direct air upright. And in my opinion it's definitely better than any Oreck as well. Manual height adjuster, clean out port, easy access to the brushroll, and a true lifetime belt.

Does anyone know when this new set of Miele canisters will be available in North America? I imagine the company will also add power nozzle models to the line-up for us here on this side of the Atlantic.
