Hi--

I'm on vacation and when I come home, I've decided that I'm buying a new miele Capricorn. I had asked in another thread about the non-electric telescoping wand fitting onto the S-5 models with electric hoses. A dealer was going to try it out for me and report back. Any answer?

Also, how do the new S-5 machines compare to the S-500 and S-600 machines. Some people have told me that the older machines were better made and more powerful, but I'm particularly impressed with the new ones. I have a White Pearl and it seems to me that the newer S-5 series is stronger and well made.

our Red Velvet is used with just a telescoping non-electric wand and works just fine. I don't know how much different the latest hose version is, except for the new handle grip.

I find its much lighter and more easily used than the electrified wand that mates with the carpet nozzle. You can see in the photo the electronic hose and the plain wand. Hope this helps.

I also have a White Pearl and would love to trade up to a Blue Moon, Red Velvet or a S5 unit like the Aquarius. I have come close to buying an Aquarius but deep down want a nice S 600 series cleaner with the 1200 W motor.

Miele does indeed build a high quality machine, and they are a joy to own and use as long as there is no breakdown. Genuine parts and repair can be painful to the wallet. Is your White Pearl a direct-connect hose machine, or a pigtail? I have the older pigtail.

My elderly mother has a 7 year old model, not sure what its called, but it is a Straight suction mid-size unit in Royal Blue. The cord reel failed shortly after the 1 year warranty. Miele was nice & supplied the replacement part after several calls from her and the selling dealer. The vacuum was in the shop for 6 weeks.

About a month ago, the "drain elbow", the part that is screwed to the underside of the lid of the dust compartment failed. Resulting in the hose falling out of its port and rendering the machine unusable. It was a $25 part and 5 minutes to fix. No biggie.

Now, while chatting with her the other day, she said, in order for the machine to run the cord can't be fully extended. So I guess something is wrong with the cordreel again.

So, for a cleaner that sees probably less than an a half hours use a week in a modestly sized home, it would be nice to not have these problems.
