Miele Cat and Dog Vs Numatic Henry

Hi All

We have a Miele S5260 Cat and Dog for last 6 years, its been spot on but now the hose and handle have broke/snapped, sadly warranty is ended too

Ive had a look at replacement hose and handle and total cost is about £85 new for both parts

this saddens me to why they are so expensive!

so my dilemma is now, maybe its just better to get a Henry (commercial model) for less than £100

We have mainly carpet in our house, how does the Henry cope with carpet? would i need the Airo brush for this?

anyone gone from a Miele to a Henry and not regretted it?

we don't have pets but have a busy household and gets vaccumed about 3 times a week

so its either buy the replacement parts or buy a new Henry and sell the Miele on auction site!

any advice much appreciated!

Henry is durable and is more Eco friendly, the Airo brush is fab for pet hair. The floor tool sticks to the floor nicely with a metal chrome soleplate.
The bags last months (approx 4 months each) The bags are HEPA bags so are excellent for allergy sufferers, They look cute and always smile.
Why do you see more Henry's around England than Miele?

I can also recommend the Henry, and its best to get the turbo brush head for mainly carpet use, its easier to push around than the standard Henry floorhead.


Unfortunately Miele parts have always been very expensive, because they basically want you not to repair your Miele but to buy a new one.


Henry parts are cheap and easily obtained online. Henrys are generally reliable, but did have a few problems with the Autosave device fitted to the 2 speed models made a couple of years back causing them to die prematurely, but I believe that new models with Autosave have now had this problem rectified.

I assume by the hose you mean the plastic handle?

I have seen these parts listed on ebay for around £6 for this model along with the extension tubes.

I reckon £25 and you will be good to go until the actual cleaner dies, far cheaper than the Henry your considering with aerobrush which will come to about £125.

the actual flexible hose rarely although its not impossible, breaks.

They are quite easy to seperate if you disconnect the lugs, maybe you can use yourold flexible hose.

If not ebay is awash with replacements too!

top one has free airo brush and microtex filtration system

second one is the 2014 commercial model with a few things changed like longer lead and bigger front wheels etc

i bought that! it comes with a non standard connector which means you have to cut the old connector off the original hose and put the new one on

I tried this and it didnt fit! even though the ebay ad says its for my model of Miele

now i have a non functioning hose with the original connector for the handle cut off due to it being glued on

il get some pics up in 5mins!

Having further inspected the telescopic tubes, I dont think they are the right ones. However a little research on your part and asking ebay sellers a few questions might prove to be useful in finding a new one.

Failing that maybe buying a cheap knackered Miele of a similar model to pinch the tubes might also be an option.

Please bear in mind that the Hairo Brush and the Airo Brush are totally different.


 


The second model from Avern is the better bet, as it has a manual speed selector and you can buy the Airo Brush as an extra. Good value for £120.


 


The Hairo brush is a smaller version like a mini turbo brush. If you want to use the Henry on carpets, then you would ideally need the Airo Brush, see the link below for the difference:

ive emailed the ebay seller i got the handle from and will see how what he says!

The Miele S4 handle and hose replacement will fit the S5 as well as the hose - they are the same.

The added nodes on the collar cuff of the hose shown (from espares) is intended for the clip on tool storer for the S4 model but doesn't interfere with the S5.

The major difference with the commercial model is the added permanent bumper on the base of the Henry and the extra 12.5 metre cable.

However Argos sell the domestic Henry model (without the base apron) for £109-00 with a 10 metre cable.

It doesn't really matter on the cable length difference - if the Henry concerned has the long hose that's what you'll be pulling much of around the home - the Miele has a standard 1.8 metre hose.

The two vacuums as you know aren't the same - whereas Henry offers big bagged performance, there's no where on the machine to store the cleaning tools and I think Miele's cleaning tools offer far better quality and versatility.

End of the day Henry is really good but you have to compromise on the size, poor storage ability and the fact that he can't really be used on stairs unless you leave him at the bottom and use the long hose and tubes. Unlike Miele the tubes can be difficult to remove in a jiffy, too.

Depending on the size of your home, it comes down to whether you want a longer cord and longer travel and willing to compromise on an older design. What you win as a bonus is the simplicity of Henry plus the bigger dust bag.

I like both vacuums, both have their merits and both have their downsides. Henry is more practical and more durable, but also slightly more dated. You might not even require the main size turbo brush dependent on your carpet pile.
