Its actualy not too crazy. The Genuine hoses for Guardian and Epic 8000 models run about $169-179 on totalvac.com, and I don't think these are compatible with the Renaissance(I could be wrong), which is the model that seemed to have very frequent problems related to the complex hose handle, so there is probably elevated demand for that hose.

ONLY A COLLECTOR!
I only paid a little over $100.00 and I bought an extra "new" hose when I bought my Epic 8000 from a regular door-to-door Electrolux man.Don't you think most customers would save the ends and have a replacement added or just throw the darn thing out and buy a new cleaner. I can only see someone like myself even considering that much. I think I would wait because we all know sooner or later we will find one.It's not an Electrolux 20 in the original box or a complete Hoover 150!

You are right, Lux strictly advises not using the Epic 8000/Guardian hose on a Renaissance. A potential catastrophe.

You are right to in that most people only replace the carcass and use the original end. Although, in most cases the hand grip will have problems such as the full bag indicator will be on, speed control won't work and the list goes on. Most people don't want to spend the big bucks to replace the board in the hand grip.

I do agree that $250 seems a little high, but if you have to replace the board in the hand grip, $250 may not be all that bad.

Par for the Overly Complicated Course!

Yes, this is very expensive, but as others have pointed out, the hose grip has all sorts of gadgetry in it that boosts the price.

This sort of thing is why I try to be careful and get only what I need to get a job done. Many, many appliances today have electonically-controlled "features" that may be beguiling on the sales floor, but which turn into nightmares when it comes to servicing. My TriStar is a can, a fan, a switch, and a motor- easy to fix, with parts very reasonably priced (for a premium machine, anyway).

I've always been astounded at how many people demand the "best" and the most gadget-laden when they're buying, but then scream bloody murder about the cost of maintenance and parts. Couldn't you figure out that a BMW might cost more to fix than a Chevy when you bought the damn thing?

What really frosts my rubber parts is the people who will not buy proper supplies for an expensive vac. Why in the bloody hell did you buy it if you didn't want to spend the money for its bags and filters?

Mine broke and was able to cut and rewire it back together and it worked fine I sold it one ebay a year or so ago because I just did not like the gaurdian anymore it was a paint to find bags and exspensive. This price is what I was quoted for this too.

It's expensive, but I don't know that it's outrageous. I honestly can't remember what I paid for a new hose for a Renny, but the retail price is at least close to $200. It might even be more. Derreck gave me a little discount, plus it's been a while. That price actually doesn't represent that much of a mark-up from retail. Those hoses are ridiculously expensive from the start.
