Decided to make my own extended length hose for the stairs and car cleaning. I didn’t want it bad enough to buy it from Kirby for $70ish, so my kirby technician friend orders raw tubing (40-50 feet) and we made three of them out of it. Just forcibly I unscrewed the ends from donor hoses , heated the ends by soaking in hot water, then screwed them on ! I think my investment was $20 for all parts( got ends from a store parts bin). The zip brush spun with all vigor even with the extended length of hose compared to 7’ factory issue hose. I’d recommend this for all who might enjoy the added flexibility of extended length hoses. fyi: this one is 14’

Hey
Nice idea.
I seen on eBay someone had a cut in the hose. They cut the hose in two at the cut. They put a small metal piece connected hoses fixing the cut.
You could get a shop vac long tube and glue on two ends.
Yours is more practical.

This is a wonderful idea! My next house will have carpeted stairs so a hose like this will be a great addition.
So what colors/styles of the bulk hose is/are there? I am betting one color for the G-series, but would prefer something for my older Kirbys.

You can buy 15' complete hose on ebay for about $21

The ends just snap on so you can easily change them if need be.

Size

If you notice shop vac. There hoses are 1.25". The Kirby is 1.75 approximately. You could buy the hose but it clogs easily.

Larger diameter vacuum hose is certainly better for air flow. No doubt about that.

15' is still rather short and I don't know that you'd see that much of a reduction in air flow in that distance.

Difference

If the hose is 1.25 instead of 1.75. that makes a difference of a half an inch. The half of inch into 1.75 is right under 30%.
I only mention this as I vacuum up our deck and cat food seems to clog the hose.
The funny thing is the smaller hose may have stronger suction being smaller.
