Lux Legacy exhaust port

Hey folks,

Well, I went and picked up my first Aerus a few days ago, and I just started on my cleaning.
I was surprised when I removed the cover over the exhaust port.
This one has a black, sort of filter looking material in the port. None of my Electrolux versions of this same machine have it.
Just wondering if anyone knows when they started putting that in there. And, is it something that's going to eventually clog up? It doesn't really seem like it's removable for cleaning.

Not the right filter your supose to hacvea rectangular filter that covers the whole area and fits in exhaust port not the right one at all here look thsi is oyur filter

That looks like window-air-conditioner-filter-foam. It's washable. You can buy sheets of it at Home Depot. It's basically the last line of defense. It looks like you can remove the plastic frame in front of it, and maybe it's on its own little frame behind that. I would assume a HEPA filter was optional.

Thank you for the reply. I'm familiar with those filters. When I put the machine back together after cleaning, I put a new one of those on.
The area in question is down inside the exhaust port. Something that was installed by the factory, and appears to be permanent.

I'm not sure that area around the filter is removable.
I'm definitely not going to try. I'm not do-it-yourselfy.
I do basic cleaning. I'll remove the parts that just snap into place, but I don't go beyond that.
Especially with a machine that I just acquired, and has been sort of a dream vacuum for me.
Yes...I have several Epic 6500s, which are essentially the same thing. But I've lusted for this color combination since it was introduced, and it's my first Aerus branded vacuum.
I was just thinking maybe someone who has the same one could enlighten me on it.
None of my Epics have that inner filter.

Yeah that is the wrong filter. Toss it out and put in the proper rectangular filters that fit in the whole tray cavity there. Not sure why someone would do all that when you can get new filters for $9.

Hescoinc.com has the best deal on those filters. Not genuine but they’ll do. Great source for generic parts too.

Just saw a hose and wands set in your colors on eBay yesterday. I know you mentioned you needed the wands and want color correct items. White and gray correct?

My Aerus Lux legacy does not have that filter you show. Someone must have added that instead of the proper one. That thing is pretty useless.

Aerus sells charcoal filters made out of this type of material but are sized and made to be used inside the bag compartment at the bottom completely across the bottom. They are available on the Aerusvacuums.com site. They help reduce odors coming from the dirt in the bag. In case you are interested.

Yup. I'm familiar with those filters for the bag compartment too.
My wands are actually solid white. They don't seem to show up too often. I bought a pair of aftermarket, but they didn't fit worth crap. I had to modify them. It seems like they'll do, but I'm still keeping my eyes open for some factory ones.
I really don't think this black filter is something someone just stuck in there. It extends beyond where the opening is; like it was built in there when the machine was assembled.

It never was meant ot be there buddy the proper filter is rectangle shape and snaps in blower port take that out and put the proper filter some one did a hack job.

I remember talking to my dealer about them, it’s a little black square of filter mesh that Aerus installed to quiet the machines down a little since they switched to the screamer single stage, it should also have a white filter after it as pictured. But again I reiterate that is supposed to be there, I found it made a difference when I had my guardian ultra for a short time.

wondered what the point of these filters were since these vacuums aren't sealed....I guess to catch carbon dust??

Mark,

I believe you're right. The white after-filter seems to catch the carbon dust.
You're supposed to change it after every five or six bag changes, and it gets quite a bit of black dust in it.

I guess I wasn't explaining it clearly.
I know the white rectangular after-filter goes on the exhaust port. I was curious about the seemingly permanently installed filter inside the port. None of my older Electrolux versions had it. Doesn't it seem like it might eventually get sort of clogged up? And it doesn't seem like you can take it out to clean it.
I wondered if it could have had something to do with noise reduction.
Thank you for clearing it up for me.
I gave the machine a test run once I got it all clean and put back together. As expected, I love it. It could be my imagination, but I felt like it has a little stronger suction than the very similar Epic 6500.
But, if they switched to a louder motor on these, maybe it was a more powerful motor, and did have increased suction?
In any case, I'm really happy with it!

Maybe I should put one in the Lux Legacy I recently acquired and see if it helps quiet it some!

It’s powder blue with medium blue trim. Not sure of it’s age but it’s been rarely used and I think it was dealer serviced as the wands had definitely been opened as the covers were exchanged between the two based on some mild scratches which line up with the opposing wands other half. Not sure why they would have been opened, maybe a service check includes opening the wands and perhaps replacing the wiring in them as preventive maintenance?

Anyway I Don’t know when they made this color scheme, it doesn’t say Electrolux anywhere, just Aerus and has the large LUX word in orange on the power nozzle. I’ve noticed over time they’ve changed the LUX and “the original since 1924” printing style over the years. I’m guessing it’s definitely post 2003 since there’s no Electrolux wording anywhere which is when they stopped using the Electrolux name.

So since it’s been Aerus, I’m trying to see what colors the Lux Legacy has been...I’ve seen light powder blue with medium blue, white with gray trim, all white perhaps? black with gray trim (current)? Is this correct...anyone know?

I think maybe the Lux Legacy had the white and gray wands and the Guardian Ultra during the same period had the all white wands? Or maybe there was a color change during the white period. I notice your body has the gray bumpers. I guess an Aerus rep could tell us.

Also would like to know the same with the Lux Classic series. I have one with medium gray body with a black top. Same Orange LUX word on the power nozzle. Would like to know what year range this one was made as well.

Maybe I’ll start a new thread to ask this...that might be better.

Anyway, if someone has a recent model black and gray lux Legacy it likely would have the black filter you have if it is something they added on your model and after. Mine is a C153C...I see yours is a C153D which would possibly indicate it was the next Model after mine.

I can't help you with the timeline.
My mom's Aerus Lux Legacy is white, or nearly white, with blue trim.
I don't think hers has the exhaust port filter, but I can't swear to it.
Mine is white with just a light grey side bumper, and the bumper on the power nozzle. Everything else is solid white; the wands, the on-board tools, even the on/off switch. Solid white.
Mine also has "The original since 1924" on the power nozzle.
I believe mine is newer than the version with the blue trim.

Yes, I think the almost all white models were the last color scheme before the current black and gray ones. Sounds like your Mom has the same one as a I have, the light color is definitely slightly light bluish on mine because the flip over rug and floor tool’s neck is the pure white so you can see a difference. Not sure why mine has the inconsistency on that tool. The person may have bought that tool at a later date as it wasn’t an included tool with the machine closer to the white color era, or maybe the neck was faulty and had to be replaced. Even though they added it, it appears to have rarely been used it is a genuine version as it has the patent number on it. There are generics available in the same color scheme but I don’t believe they will have the patent number on them.

It would be interesting to see if a black Lux Legacy has that filter in it. I believe Keither owns one, you may wish to look at his profile and email him to check for it if he does indeed have one. Would be interesting to find out.

Good idea.
My Electrolux that's almost identical to my mom's and your Aerus has a mismatched flip tool, which was added later.
My mom's Aerus does too, because I gave her one.
I was surprised when they did away with that tool, as so many people seemed to like it.

However, I do have an answer for you.
Someone is selling a new, unused display unit of the current black Legacy.
One of their pictures shows the exhaust port. Sure enough, it has the filter material in it!
