Lux L Hose Help Needed!

Oy!

I have just about worn out the Internet looking for a replacement Model L hose that meets the following requirements, to no avail:

- Good quality or genuine Aerus.
- Swivel end like original hose.
- Suction control.
- Non-electric, NOT a pigtail hose.
- NOT one of those cheap corrugated plastic hoses- I need a good hose like the genuine Aerus hose on my Diamond Jubilee.

Does anyone know where I can find such a beast?

Electrolux used to make a really nice replacement hose - it =was= the "corrugated" type but of very high quality vinyl, not the cheap plastic stuff you're thinking of. It was "Silverado Gray" in color, had a gray plastic pistol grip, and would swivel on both ends. I see them every now and then on eBay.

Thanks. Even though I am anti-corrugated hoses, if you can vouch for the quality, I will look for one. Most corrugated hoses don't seem to last long, splitting in the corrugations sooner or later, usually sooner.

I wish I could find what I'm looking for, which would be a good 3-ply hose with a vinyl carcass, nylon reinforcing layer, and vinyl outer layer. And swivel. And suction control.

i hate to say this but quality isn't important in this world anymore that's why you can't find what you are looking for. the world in now a "throw it away and buy a new one" world!! it sucks and i feel it too. if i see what you are looking for i certainly will let you know!!!!!

companies need to stop selling out to all of the foriegn countries (like hoover to china) of course that "sell out" happened long before china....hoover hasn't be hoover since the 80's....... i just wish they built stuff today like they did in the 40's to 60's... quality is NO MORE! even todays kirby's are not what they use to be unfortuately. sorry to get on my soapbox but i'm surprised that i've never actually heard this conversation here before. (about quality and newness)

I have to say, with the new "corrugated" hoses, the quality is much higher, and the durability much longer, than the woven hoses. Especially if they are subjected to any abuse at all.

I'm not sure if we're talking about the same thing when we mention "corrugated" hoses.

The kind I'm trying to avoid is the type that looks like a hair dryer hose, just one layer of plastic moulded into a corrugated cheap hose. You see vac hoses of this kind all over eBay, very cheaply. And you get what you pay for.

The kind of hose I like is the kind that Aerus supplies as a replacement electric hose for the 1205 through Marquis machines. It's a three-ply hose: vinyl carcass, nylon web reinforcement, and a clear vinyl outer layer. It does have corrugations, but they're due to the wire inside, they're not moulded in. What I keep hoping to find is a hose like this, in a non-electric version.

Sorry to be so particular here, but I will confess to being kinda picky about hoses. My Diamond Jubilee has three- its original woven electric hose (leaks, but great for display), plus two genuine Aerus electric hoses- one almost new and in perfect shape, for regular vacuuming. The other is older, and has a couple of small splits in its clear vinyl top layer; that one is used for dirty jobs and for times when there's a chance of damaging a good hose.

If I get time, I will take a picture of the hose that I purchased from Aerus a couple of years ago. It is a grayish color, with the pistol grip, non-electric. It actually looks good on my model 30 Lux.

I believe Steel City sells the same hose at a much more resonable price. I paid 85.00 for the non-electric from Aerus and 135.00 for the electric pig tail version for my Models L & G.
I purchased the Steel City version for my 1205 and newer machines at a total cost of 65.00...If memory serves me correctly.

The vinyl hoses make the Lux's much more user friendly.

Mike, you are correct, there is no pride or quality in most products sold today. Build them to work the first time you plug them in and hope for the best the second time you plug them in. It amazes me how Wal-Mart and other low end stores can sell a product that looks very similar to a product sold at say at Kohls or JC Penny's, but if you check it out, it is a lower end model that is more than likely not going to hold up. Sunbeam Hand mixers are a great example...look at their web site and then compare to the version that is sold at Wal-Mart.

Just my two cents.

Here's a photo that I hope will make it clear as to what I want- the hose on the left is the inexpensive single-ply corrugated hose I don't want. The one on the right is the triple-ply construction I'm looking for. Unfortunately, even though this hose has everything else I'm looking for, it does not swivel. A swivel hose is the greatest Lux feature ever- it makes vacuuming much easier. So, I'm trying to find one that does.

I knew what you were talking about -- and the gray hose that both I and Morgan mentioned is the same construction as the white hose above, but more durable and substantial, yet more flexible. The material it's made out of is amazing - almost like rubber. It's really a wonderful hose.

Thanks, Charlie- I didn't think it was likely that you, of all people, were confused about what I wanted, but I wanted to be sure I hadn't confused the issue.

Anyway, this hose I gotta see. If anyone has a photo, or knows of a website where it's pictured, I'd love to see it.

Mine's blue. I have the original woven hose for it, plus a PN-2 with the turquoise sheath in excellent shape. Complete set of tools, and courtesy of this list, a manual. It has the halo instead of a cordwinder; that's what I wanted. (In case anyone says, "Oh, poor Sandy- let's dig him up a cordwinder!")

Right now, I'm trying to work out the hose/PN cord issues before making it my daily driver. I need to find a hose I like, and I need a set of PN cord straps- I do have the PN cord itself. I don't want to use the original hose much, because I killed the hose on my Diamond Jubilee that way. It was fine when I got the machine, but after a few months of regular use, it developed major leaks. Now it's display-only, sad to say. I am resolved not to repeat my mistake.

Here are pictures of the three hoses referenced above.

The inside hose is the straight suction, second is the pigtail version for the L&G in my collection, the third is for the 1205 and newer. The first two came from Aerus, the third one came from Steel City. I don't order from Steel City but vac club owners that are members here do. I beleive Chuck Chatham does order from there, it would not hurt to give him a call.

Okay, here's the hose I was talking about.

This hose looks great with the Silverado, the gray wrinkle-finish factory-rebuilt G, and the Model F. The F less so than the others, since its gray color is not quite as bluish, but it looks nice nonetheless. (For that matter, a nice while "corrugated" hose looks nice with the F, too!)

Note the sturdy construction (it's not at all flimsy), the deluxe pistol grip, and the hefty cuffs on each end.
