Lux 2100 power light issue

Hey everybody! I have inherited an Electrolux 2100 from a neighbor, but when i plug the power cord to the wall the green plug light on the top doesn't light up. The vacuum works like a dream, but i can't figure out why this light isn't illuminating..the rest of the lights seem to work fine. i have not found anything forum wise regarding this specific issue. Luckily this doesn't affect the vacuums performance, but its very much an annoyance to my OCD. Any advice on a fix would be greatly appreciated!

It probably needs a new bulb, I have the same model my light works but it is very dim.

Congrats on your new acquisition.

Technically, your cleaner is a "Hi-Tech 2100". You can confirm by looking on the inside of the bag cover. These were sold in the U. S. A. from 1985 to 1987. After that they were sold in taupe and sand with mauve labels (named "System 90" in Canada) from 1987 to 1989.

I believe the term was unique to the American version versus the Canadian as the latter's previous model, E2000 (1982-84), had carried the hi-tech features. Those features included the the revolutionary illuminated operation indicators and the after-filter. All the automatic cleaners in the U. S.--including those with the Aerus logo--have included these features since.

The first generation of 2100s was designed and introduced in Canadian markets some time in 1984 and made its initial appearance as the first plastic-bodied cleaner in American markets in January 1985 (according to rugsucker/Jimmy Martin's reply in another Vacuumland thread). There were also several Model 2100 tanks with different names in the 1980s and early 1990s including: Special Edition (automatic), Regency Series 2000, and Diplomat. The second generation of 2100s was given alphanumeric model designations in the C141 and C152 series, and '2100' was used only as the name. These were manufactured from the mid-1990s to 2003. The bodies of both were very similar except for the colors and labels.

Your power nozzle appears to be a Model 7B (the black version of the Model 6As also bore the label with a grid design which matched the tanks' labels, but I'm thinking they were companions to the basic Model L-E). Also, your hose is the original.

My vacuum simply says 2100 no high-tech markings anywhere. The neighbor I received this from did say that it was purchased around 99 or 2000. I'm not sure how accurate this is, but it's what I was told. As far as the green power light goes, is it common for these to go out? What type of "bulb" would be suitable for replacement? I'm a newbie and thought this would be an easy first fix for me, but maybe I was wrong.

Regarding the lack of "Hi-Tech" on the bag cover I wonder if it is a replacement? All those I have seen have the same "Hi-Tech 2100" model designation on the inside of the cover. Of course there's a possibility that the the "Hi-Tech" was dropped at some point. As for the time of purchase that particular model--unless it had been stored for a dozen years or so which is possible--was only sold in the mid- to late 1980s (the years I mentioned may not be right on but they're close). After that other cleaners such as the Diplomat and Epic Series were marketed by Electrolux. It could also have been refurbished at some point and sold "like new" in '99 or '00.

Anyway, it was a popular machine and well-built, so I'm sure you'll get much good use from it like many others have--in both the U. S. and Canada.

Power Nozzles 5, 5C, 6A, 6B, 6BC, 7B, 7BC

To clarify, here's some information about the Omni-Flow power nozzles:

The black Omni-Flow Automatic power nozzles were PN-5 (to complement the Silverado's dark gray color). There was also a "sand" colored PN-5 which went with the first Diamond Js. The 5C went with the CB2000s--probably in both dark gray and sand. I'm not sure if there were any internal differences between the household and commercial versions--maybe the brush rolls were different.

Next, came the "jade"-colored PN-6, a dark green so dark that, at first glance, can appear to be black. It was the first model to feature an on/off/reset switch. In addition, it had a small brush strip that was secured behind the brush roll compartment for bare floor cleaning.

The PN-6A had no bare floor brush strip, the cord was hard-wired, and the rungs of the brush roll compartment were metal instead of plastic; it was initially used just for the plastic tanks, but was later used also for all the taupe-colored tanks (including the metal ones) when the PN-6 was discontinued. 6B replaced PN-6A and marked the change back to the plastic rungs; it was used for the plastic economy tanks (1623s) at the time. 7B was manufactured at the same time as the 6B but for the higher-end models (2100s), because it was equipped with extra channels on the bottom for increased air flow. The commercial versions were 6B (sand-colored w/Electrolux label) and gray-blue-colored w/the Prolux label) and 7BC (gray-blue w/the Electrolux label); I don't know if there was ever a 6C or 6AC. I'm not sure, either, if there was ever a 7 or 7A. Just when you think you've gotten all the information, something else pops up on eBay or Craigslist!

Anyway, some of the 6Bs and 7Bs had matching hoods--Electrolux typically didn't have uniquely -styled or -labeled hoods for its different categories of tanks even though the other parts may have differed. That's why it's good to know the model and do a little research before purchasing if you can. Check out the photos to see for yourself.
