Electroluxes and pipe organs must have a thing going on. I was watching a documentary series on Amazon Prime Video last week called 'Ultimate Restoration' and one of the episodes was about the restoration of a massive pipe organ at Boardwalk Hall (?) on the Jersey shore. Once they had cleared all the pipes out, an elderly volunteer was vacuuming out 80-year-old dust and dirt with what looked like an Electrolux Model G.

Wondering if Electrolux had deals with churches? Or maybe they just showed up at church mass? My great grandmother was Baptist and she ended up being a devout Electrolux user.

I am not sure what she owned before then, but she had a Golden Jubilee from the time it was new until maybe 1998 or so when my mother was vacuuming and the motor exploded in a big smoke show (I was there when it happened). The carcass of the vacuum got traded in for a refurbished Olympia One which she kept and the housemaid used (she was too elderly to vacuum or clean house by this point) until her death in 2002. My mother adopted the Electrolux and we used it a bit through 2002-2003 but the brushroll kept not wanting to work properly and then my mom got sucked into the Kirby salesman's pitch after a random doorstop visit in 2003 and the Electrolux got kicked around the house and then into the basement and then the garage where it's remained since the mid 2000's. Still have it, but likely needs a lot of work by now.

I would imagine.....

that an Electrolux salesman was not above going to a church for sales. Some churches would be long time customers.....makes business sense to me;large spaces, need a good quality vac. We hear about Hoover, Krby and Royal being used in churches.

In my experience, pastors and preachers make the best Rainbow (and Bison) salesmen.

I spent years in a church and rectories.

There was an Electrolux "J" at the rectory. The housekeeper always cleaned the mattresses with it. One church had a big old Kirby Omega. no tools. They used a Clarke shop vac type vacuum.
A lot of people used that Lux, though.

I'm sure that was true too. Would just depend on the policy of the pastor/preacher/priest/deacons etc. I've seen people donate hopelessly useless junk to churches. I guess it made them feel better, but it didn't help the church a bit.

It would make more sense to buy something new/durable/commercial for the long term.

Also, when 3 other Catholic churches closed,

all of the cleaners came to us. Now, they are all over the place: the parish center, church, rectory, etc.....................
When I worked there, I bought 2 new Hoover Guardsman cleansers , plus a Decade 80.
I found old vacuums in the rectory attic, in closets under stairs, etc................... amazing.

The church I grew up in had an Electrolux CB with power nozzle. It was brown so I guess it was to match the Olympia. I bet they sold a lot of CB's to churches. The long hose and power nozzle make it much easier to clean under and between pews than an upright.

My dad's farm equipment dealership used to have an old Electrolux CB in the copier room. It had the stainless steel tank and a big rubber bumper down near the casters. I used to play around with it as a kid and would take the top lid off to look at the huge cloth filter inside. It had the aluminum wands and floor nozzle. I recall that it was fitted with the hose that had the power cord on the outside, but there never was a powered floor nozzle for it that I ever saw. It was in great shape from what I remember and didn't get used much.

Electrolux goes to Church!

So a friend of mine who refurbishes buildings in the bad parts of town to revitalize the urban neighborhood, bought an old church which had been trashed and vandalized over the years it was recently vacant. While working on it he came across a bunch of genuine Electrolux canister bags. He knew I have a few Electrolux’s and asked if I wanted the bags. I indeed got them. Interestingly enough, they were sent to a man in Mississippi from the delivery label on the box, not Dallas, but they were found in this Dallas, TX church. No vacuum was ever found in the church.

I do bet lots of Churches bought the Electrolux...with good service and a durable machine, it would be less hassle to just have one and when bags were needed or if something went wrong on it, all one has to do is call the number on the vacuum for service rather than have to deal with a service or replacement task.

I can’t imagine trying to use a Kirby between church pews, especially carpeted ones.
