I found this beauty at a yard sale. It was the daughter of a woman who had just passed away. I'm not exactly sure how much this cost, as I got some other stuff, all for $10. She even threw in a replacement belt for free.
This vacuum was so pristine that my wife and I joked that the woman must have vacuumed with something else before using this because it was kept so clean.

I tried to find information about when this unit was manufactured. But I couldn't find anything. Can anyone tell me anything about it?

The old belt was very worn and when used started to smoke. So I put the new belt in. When I turn it on, it sounds normal. But as soon as I start to use it, there's a terrible high pitched squeal. What is going on?

Also:

Flip it over and see if the belt is put on the right way, there is a groove where the belt rides that the belt should align with. The "new" belt she included might be older than you think if she rarely used this machine.See if the belt is rubbing on something and listen for noises from the bearings on the roller. Sometimes there can be hair or string etc.tightly wrapped on both the roller brush area and on either end of the roller where the bearings are. If bad enough it can really slow your roller down and heat up your fan belt too.
