Look what I was givern today...

Its a Holland Electro Toppy S.
I'm not sure if it should of gone in this forum or the Contemporary as the elderly man I got it off said he bought it about 30 years ago he thinks....

Any one know anthing about it??
I know it based in the lewyt model.
It says made in Holland.

Nice find:

From what I've been able to put together when the Lewyt company went bankrupt around 1962 the assets were sold off. SMC bought the rights to the name, the molds for the parts and some of the patents and Holland Electro bought the rights / patents and tooling equipment for the square machines. They produced the Toppy in Europe from the 1960's well into the 1980's. Unfortunately we never got them in North America.

Oh, that's fabulous! Thanks so much for sharing that! I wish that someone would bring that design back today. It's such a well-designed machine, very easy to maneuver. I think they would do quite well in today's market.

LOL - the companies would never sell them. Its not cheap plastic garbage. God forbid it should actually last for more than a year or two. Then they couldnt sell you another one right away.

Well, it sort-of worked for the Constellation. It was a well-made machine at a good price-point... had a decent set of tools and great filtration, not to mention (mostly) metal construction. I think it would have worked better and probably been longer-lasting had Hoover actually put some dollars behind distributing and advertising it in appropriate markets.

I think that was SCM that bought them. They later merged with another company, and Lewyts were made for awhile under a couple of different logos, but they were more generic rectangular tanks and not the Big Wheels we had known.

Actually, John & Doug, you're BOTH right.....

SMC Corporation, a maker of ceiling fans, bought the rights to the Lewyt name back in 1998 & produced some cheap, Chinese made vacuums that sold in the likes of Walmart & Zellers before going back out of business again a few years later.

I have an old smith-corona type writer. I used to use it a lot but i dont anymore because idont want the ink strip to get wore out.
