Croydon West-Wickham can be seen working

Good Home

Hi I also hope it get a good home, When I got it I was at home after taking early retirement and I had the time to use it but I'm now back at work full time, so its now straight from washing machine to dryer

I need one too, we used to have one donkey's years ago but never bought another after it broke.

Dave Tranter, just a question, which washing machine do you have? Thanks

I use an Electrolux WH818. 800/400 spin speeds. My 'Good Lady' has a Hoover Aquarius 1000/500 spin speeds. I recently 'just missed' a Zanussi spinner in a local charity shop.... I got a 'tip-off' from a friend, but it was already gone when I got there..... :'(

All best

Dave, that Electrolux is an absolute CLASSIC! Nice to hear that someone has looked after one of these, as they're becoming quite rare machines.

Hoover Aquarius? Do you mean Hotpoint Aquarius? I don't think Hoover ever made a machine branded Aquarius - they were all Electronic, Electron, Logic, EcoLogic, Soft Wave, New Wave and Performa branded.

Dave, what a great machine you have! I would love one of those Electrolux machines.

I have a 1987 Zanussi EW1007 which is approximately the same vintage as yours, with 1000/500 spin which I wont warble too much about seeing that this is Vacuumland, not Automaticwasher :)

Here is a picture..

Jacob, another classic machine, nice one! I love these style Zanussi's. I grew up in a very Zanussi orientated household. Infact, my Mum still has a Zanussi washer and dryer.

We had a 1979 Zanussi S218T and later a 1995 FJ1295 Jetsystem that was in daily use for a family of 6 for 11 years.

Chris, thanks, was £10 on eBay in Goole in April, picking it up tied in around a friend's wedding in that neck of the woods.

It works great apart from the occasional grouching sound when washing medium to large loads - I promise I haven't overloaded it! Strange not having a balance sensor compared to the fairly modern Bosch, i'll tell ya, the Zanussi can dance out of its place!

Here is a pic on a 60deg cotton wash - half load is on.

That's a bit of a trait of older brushed machines, Jacob. Hoover, Hotpoint, Zanussi - you know it, they bounced around the kitchen.

We were lucky really as our S218T had an induction motor and barely moved. The only older brushed machines I've known to be more sturdy are Miele, AEG and Servis machines, but they're built like absolute tanks!

Chris

I knew it definately. Our old Hotpoint 95620 and Hoover Ecologic bounced around lots, and the Hoover ended up damaging the side of the kitchen unit in our last house!

Zanussi 218T

My mum had one of those too. Her first Auto, a Zanussi DL6, only lasted 5 years and in that time it had to have a new outer drum (4 years) and bearings (5 years) - that was what got it sent to the dump. Of course the bearings should have been done when the drum was replaced, but we did not realise that then.

Although she considered a Hoover, Mum really liked Zanussi so she decided to risk it again. Fast forward to 1997 (17 years later), having been moved to Cyprus and back it was still running well and in fact out-lasted both my mother and my father - I only wish I had kept it, but was not collecting then

Yeah.... It'll be a Hotpoint that the Good Lady has.... She couldn't remember (and neither could I). The main reason I use the WH818 is the induction motor....

No annoying commutator whistle at spin speed. :-)

Clothes still only half dried at the end of the spin. :-(

Five minutes in (borrowed) spin dryer - clothes almost dry enough to wear :-D

All best

Dave T ;-)
