League of nations

I thought a fun theme would be to collect examples of cleaners in my collection from as many countries as possible - cannisters

Top from the left: Lewyt (USA), Hitachi (Japan), AEG (Germany)
Lower: AEG (Germany), Lux 310 (UK) Lux E (USA) Lux 89 (Canada) Lux 90 (UK) Hoover 419 (UK)

Uprights

From the left: Goblin (UK) AEG (Germany), Hoover x2 (France), Colston (UK company but made in Italy) Philips (Holland)

I had planned to do a focus on the AEG cleaners as they are rare here but I did not manage to get around to it :(

Glamour shot

This 89 was very kindly sent to me by Doug (collector2) and is very quiet in operation, indeed the PN was far noisier than the cleaner itself. I have three Canadian Lux models, thanks to Doug, all are great performers.

Comparison

The Lux E must have made its way to the UK (I bought it here) along with someone returning back to live here. It was/is in rather a sorry state but I got it for its rarity value, thinking it was little more than a scrapper. However (this is the first time I ran it) it performs really well.

I will admit that I think it is a rather ugly cleaner, but I will freely acknowledge that it has a tremendous suction, even better when the cord winder was moved to one side. I now plan to get hose and tools for it - I have the hose but its collapsed at one end, the wands are very rusty and the combination rug/floor nozzle is probably past its best too. I am sorry to say that both the E and the 89 performed much better than the UK model, even if it was TOL in its day

Who is this Man of Mystery?

It is of course VintageHoover Jack :) modelling the Lux 89.

Although not posting here at the moment he is as keen as ever on vacuums and is busy, well and happy. I did ask him about the Vintage Hoover Emporium which has only temporarily gone off-line and will be back when he has a chance (and he is VERY busy at the moment) to get all the site links sorted out again.

It was great to have Jack (and Jon) to stay for the weekend :)

Harlequin

And another glamour shot, this time the Hoover Harlequin (model 419) - another favourite from my collection and although it came in different colour schemes and I have all but one of them, this is by far my favourite of the model

Weekend

It was great not only to spend time with old friends, but we were also joined by Colin who is new to collecting but seems to have a rapidly expanding collection of Electroluxes.

But, as always the time flies by really quickly, and now its just a happy memory

Check this web page out and see if you still consider the Electrolux Model E ugly!

btw it's older than you think -- it was introduced in 1954 and was sold through mid-1956 when it was replaced with the very dainty Model S.
