Little Lux Line-Up

Here is an attempt to display all the Little Luxes that have been manufactured by Aerus/Electrolux USA since they were introduced around 1990.

To start with, here is what appears to be the introductory pamphlet (originally posted by elux-o-matic):

Actually there was a rechargeable little lux that came out about 1985. This is the one I used to have (again lost in the fire 2 years ago)

The problem

with the rechargeable Little Lux was the short running time and the life of the batteries. It was short lived. The First Lil Lux handvac came out of the purchase of Regina.

I think the rechargable might have been a Sanyo labeled for Elux.
Above is correct that the first corded was a relabeled Regina Dirt Magnet.The Regina had 2 part,2 page ads that were better than the vac.
These came after years of Elux having gear belt starting with the first Power Nozzle and self sealing filter bags that allowed you to 'See No,Touch No,Breathe No Dust'.
Then the first had smooth belt and all had cloth bags to remove and shake dirt & dust out of!

Thank you Kevin, I have really enjoyed seeing this machines. I remember when the second version shown above came out. I thought they looked really strange but better than the Dirt Devil hand vacs. Someone on this board not long ago stated that the Little Lux was still being made and was in the Aerus stores. Is this true? I thought they had been discontinued.

Douglas, I had quoted someone else about the first year the Little Luxes were manufactured, so I appreciate the correction. Thanks also for the pic of the rechargeable Little Lux. Sorry you lost it in a fire.

John & Jimmy, Thanks for adding info. about the Little Lux. I didn't know that Electrolux had rebranded the Sanyo rechargeable; and that they bought out Regina--and then rebranded it as their first electric handheld. I can't understand why a vacuum leader such as Electrolux would rebrand anything. I understand Aerus is currently doing the same thing with its air and water purifiers. I would say, Jimmy, that the cloth bags were a step back for Electrolux's 'See No,Touch No,Breathe No Dust'--also a step back in terms of using a smooth belt. Did they ever retrofit them with a geared belt? Which model would be the best for purchase?

You're welcome for the post, Christopher. I like comparisons of models and timelines--which are both helpful from a collector's perspective. A friend of mine recently contacted Aerus about the Little Luxes and was told that they are still being manufactured. I don't know which model though.

Little Lux

All after the Regina made had gear belt but not as durable as on Power Nozzle.All were direct air with all dirt hitting fan.Something else that Electrolux had never done!These were often a 'T Trade'item.That is- if you buy the big Elux for $X and add the L Lux for $Y we will give you $Y for your old vac.
Which would be best?-A Sidekick on an Elux tank!If you want a hand vac in many ways the Royal Prince and original Dirt Devil are THE hand vacs and can use throw away bags.And the Hoover had clean air system(with dirt cup).

You mean the Little Lux NEVER had paper bags?? That is strange for Lux. However, it wouldn't be very difficult to make paper bags to fit them.

It is seemingly unusual for Electrolux to "rebrand" another companies product but lots of them do that with products they haven't manufactured before. Electrolux USA invested heavily in a water filter system over 20 years ago and it failed. I believe it was called PureLux? Not sure but they have had setbacks.

Thanks, Christopher (#13). I was just surprised that a company with a reputation such as Aerus/Electrolux would resort to rebranding instead of designing their own. You would think that they would have continued to perfect the PureLux (or whatever it was called) just as they've done with their vacuum cleaners.

Regarding replies nos. 6 & 7, the hand-held was called "Litt'l Lux" and was Model 1557. Technically, that spelling was incorrect since the apostrophe was used to replace a letter (not used to show possession). It should have been "Littl'" with the apostrophe at the end if they didn't want the 'e').

Another typical error with apostrophe usage is "Stop 'n Go" (with one apostrophe)--which should be "Stop 'n' Go" (with two apostrophes) showing that the 'a' and 'd' had been removed from the word "and".

One more ... it's stands for "it is" and its (without the apostrophe) is the possessive pronoun ... such as the dog ate its food.

Ok, that's it for the grammar lesson--just sayin'.
