Could anyone recommend a high quality light-weight upright vacuum? A friend of mine is looking for something to replace her Oreck which it turns out she doesn't like. I mean, I think she like's the idea of an Oreck but wants a better version (if it exists). She isn't concerned with price at all. Also, she wants a new machine. Thanks.

Panasonic makes a nice basic model MCUG 581 that is not quite as light as an Oreck but has a stronger motor and port in the back to attach an option 12' hose kit.

The Simplicity/Riccar is a nice machine as well.

Eureka 1934 A/B gets my vote too! Another good choice is the Hoover Lightweight Platinim bagged..... I mean if money is no issue of course she could go with the Riccar Supralite or Simplicity Freedom, but I really enjoy my Lightweight Platinum. It cleans so well and is easy to use and agile and nimble and looks good too!

Hoover Platinum Collection Lightweight Upright!

I have heard nothing but good stuff about them, and while I have not used one myself, I have used the Hoover Platinum Collection Multi-Cyclonic Bagless Upright, as it is my Daily Driver, and I LOVE it!

I second

That riccar Supralite or Simplicity freedom they are better cleaners than Orecks due to the stiffer brushroll, wider airpath and larger fan

Lindhaus Activa...

single motor clean air on-board tools upright. Quiet, low profile, adjustable cleaning height, very low handle weight, long cord. Can replace bottom plate with one to do an excellent job on bare floors. The brush roll spins at a constant 5,000 rpm, has disc polished bristles that sweep up and release debris.  Auto shut off for obstructions means no belt changes.  Bag change signal Convertible to dry carpet cleaning. Excellent vacuum.

There is also a cordless handvac, a carpet cleaner that is different than Steamvac, with a canister that is a Fantom Lightning wannabe.

The Shark Navigator Lift Away Professional has my vote. We have that and the regular Lift Away - either is a great machine for the money. They'll blow away anything else in the price range.
