light n easy upright vac from Home-tek

some of you may remember a previous thread i did on this machine it came to me with a shattered fan i could not get a replacement anywhere so i threw it all in a box and forgot about it until 2 days ago when i came across the address of the company that makes them [they are only a fiew miles away in west yorkshire]i sent them an email and got one back the next day from a very nice lady called Joan she has put one in the post for me and its on its way it cost 6.50 including postage not bad to get it working again so here is a fiew pic of it stripped waiting for its new fan

theres 2 light bulbs under that cover and the black plastic thing next to it is the fan cover it needs to be sealed around its seam there are lots of places on this machine that are not sealed this cover simply pushes on over the fan no gasket so when its running there is lots of suction loss at diffrent points

the inside showing the small motor although its rated at 400 watts you can see where the fan [or the impellor as Joan called it ]has sheared off you may be wondering why well it could have something to do with the clothes peg that was in the bag.any dirt this machine picks up is blasted straight up the handle into the bag yet again there is no seal where the handle base joins the fan chamber .the brush roll is good and even has real bearings in either end

when the fan arrives i will post more pics of the rebuild although this machine is cheap and cheerful it performs very well sadly the old lady it belongs to died a fiew weeks ago so i cant give it back to her but i am sure i can find a good home for it

i have decided to keep it because it performs really well suction is really good and you can see where you have been with it also its very light so i am going to use it as my upstairs vac rather than carry the Kirby up every time i need to clean the performance of this machine is comparable to that of a Hoover junior and the paper bag is about the same size as the one in a Kirby

The bag capacity is not quite the same size as the Kirby. Kirby has about 12 to 13 litres - the Hometek only has 4 litres. Whilst I can sympathise that it is similar to a Hoover Junior, I had two of these Hometek, one blue one and one red one. They didn't last with me though they were easy enough to sell off to others. Much prefer my Vax VCU-02 commercial upright - same kind of design but far lighter to push and the bags are twice the size as Hometek.

I've added a link to an old review I did for the Hometek. The worst aspect is that it takes 7 screws to undo when the drive belt breaks - not exactly like a Hoover Junior.
