LEWYT BIG WHEEL COLORS

I hope the answer to this is, YES! I would like to know if big wheels came in any other colors than blue. I have purchaced one, it needs to be restored anyway, and I have too many blue machines. I seem to remember seeing a gray one once. If this is so, were the gaskets etc. also gray? Thanks

Green

They had a couple of green models, including I believe, the Lewyt Electronic. The green ones had gold trim, I believe. I'll see if I can find a picture.

My Lewyt Leader, a green one, seems to be the economy model, as there are no electronic/electric features about it, except the motor, of course ! It is green with white trim. Matches some other goodies of mine, like my Air-Way 88 Mk. II!

You've seen my Lewyt Big Wheel model 90, which is green/cream with gold trim and wands. It won a double blue ribbon for the best original and straight suction cleaning contest at the Portland Convention. Because it was a double winner, it is retired from competition. I'll show it to you again next time you come by. Some of the green models did not have gold trim. Other than blue, I have not seen a gray Big Wheel. The earlier model canisters did come in gray with red trim.

I have a model 90 too, also known as the "Golden Lewyt." Interesting how the wands and hose ends were gold. Unfortunately, I don't have any of the "above the floor" attachments (upholstery nozzle, dusting brush, crevice tool). Were they green like the rug nozzle, or cream colored? I hope to get a set someday. Also, was the hose green or cream? I think mine may be a replacement hose on the original Lewyt ends. It's cream colored, but seems to be a more modern style of hose than would have been available when the 90 was made.
As for a gray big wheel, I could be wrong, but I think I saw one when I visited Mike Hays last year. He has at least one of every Lewyt that was made! I also believe Doug Smith has one on his website.
My other Lewyt is a model 40--the first one made, if I'm not mistaken. It uses filter cones, like a Filter Queen. My 40 is not complete either--it has a full set of attachments, but no wands!! Both of them run great!

The dusting brush and crevice tool are cream colored. The upholstery tool is 2 toned, cream and the bottom portion is green. The Rug tool is green with cream bumpers and the hose is green. It is an original hose but the plastic is a bit stiff after all these years but does not leak at all. If I come across any above the floor tools in my searches, I will snag them for you.

I do not remember a gray big wheel, but do recall a few shades of blue, one so light that it could have been taken as gray. I think Mike Hays, the Lewyt expert could better answer this question. He is one of the only people I know that has a Lewyt Electronic, which has been a quest of mine for years. And the search goes on.

Gray Big Wheel

I do not believe there was an all-gray Big Wheel, but there was one that was an odd two-tone combination of hammertone gray and green! Apparently, this model is pretty rare; the one or two that have ever come up on eBay have commanded big bucks. I think I have a couple of piccies of that model here on my hard drive, lemme see ... hang on....... ah, yes, here they are -- two of 'em. This is a real beauty, eh. Don't remember where the photos came from but I think it was eBay.

btw, this is a later model than the Hammertone blue Big Wheel, but earlier than the white and green one with gold trim.

Golden Lewyt

My rug nozzle is just as you described--green with cream bumpers. And since the original hose is green mine is definitely a replacement. It's cream colored and one of the modern, "indestructable" types. And thank you for keeping an eye out for the tools--it would be great to have a complete set!

Thanks to all for the help but

Now I feel that changing the color would be the wrong thing to do. So, I will be finishing it in the blue that it was designed with...This however will require obtaining more machines (red, brown,) you name it, to offset all the blue units...WHAT A SHAME!!!
