Let's Talk Miele

Well, at the vacuum gathering in Milwaukee, we visited Duane Taylor's shop in Mequon WI. He is a Miele dealer and as you can see, we had fun checking out all the models. It gave me a new appreciation for Miele. It is a well-designed and manufactured machine. My only problem with these machines is the differential in pricing in Europe and here. Still, when you compare them to other high-priced vacuums, they stack up well!

A Aluminium. All in all a great machine and I love the parquet floor tool. I upgraded to the 236 power nozzle.

Miele History

From one of my older brochures. I am soooooo tempted to get the Red Velvet. I would love to get that one from 1954.

Fred, I had no idea Miele had been around that long. What interesting machines. Love that `1954 model. Those early tools look very much like Filtex tools.

I have three Meiles in my collection-a Red Velvet,Art "Roses"and a White Pearl.Like the machines they perform well-and use the "Extreme Clean" filtrete bags in them.I have the SEB 236 powernozzle for the Red Velvet.I think its the SEB217 that came with the White Pearl.

Mine

I have the Red Flamenco II and the stick broom type Miele. The broom is at my Mom's. It has the floor brush on it so she loves using that one on the tile.

I love the history pic. My favorite is the 1962 model. It looks very Hoover.

Fabulous brochure, I LOVE that 1972 model. I have to say, the 1962 model also bears a resemblance to the Canadian Electroluxes as well.

My favorite Mieles have to be the Universal Uprights. One of these days...

I too was rather impressed with the Miele, when I got to play with them at the December St. Louis mini-meet. Both Andy W. and an unnamed exiled member are Miele dealers, and both provided them for our enjoyment. The unnamed exiled member just sent me a new Miele, at no cost (we often give each other vacuums), which I am anxiously awaiting. I want to evaluate whether I should look into carrying Miele in my store. I had originally felt that in this largely blue-collar community where the vast majority of residents are factory workers that "all-metal construction" and "American made" would be more impressive to my customer base than "German mystique," and chose to sell Air-Way instead. I don't want to lose any Air-Way sales if I took on Miele. Anybody have any thoughts? I'd particularly enjoy hearing from "air-way charlie" about this.

Clay -That "Unamed" Exiled Member

Used to hate Miele. He said that they were very overpriced. He had one that he used as his "garage vacuum." To what do you attribue his change of heart??

I know that when I joined the VCCC for the first a while back, that the "Unnamed" Exile member sent me a Miele that was a trade in at his shop. This machine was a 248i (similar to the flamico) and it had a lamb motor in it, with no power nozzle. This fellow VCCC member did not like that it was so high priced for what he said was nearly the same motor in it as a Kenmore. I believe they had a change of heart when they saw the German made Miele motor and thought it was much better than the Lamb that was stuck in earlier machines. Clay please correct me if I am wrong as this happened a good 5 or more years ago, it was around the time you so nicely sent me an Electrolux Ultralux (which i wish i still had!).

P.S. Can anyone confirm if Wessel-Werks definetly makes the Miele power nozzles?

Older Mieles

Here's my one-and-only Miele - the Electronic S 224. Still works like new, in fact it's become my daily cleaner for all our new laminate flooring! I've been told that it was made between 1977-81. Until I got this I always hated cylinder cleaners in general, mainly because we always had uprights as our main cleaners - but I really like using them now, provided they're as well-made as the Miele! I have the complete toolkit for it as well, but I don't have an 'ensemble picture' of all the bits!

After working seven days a week for a whole month, I decided I just didn't feel like going to the store today, so I will take the picture of the machine on display tomorrow. I will also include pictures of my current Miele display. Here is another pic of my vintage Miele, though.
