I thought it would be fun for us to share a photo of our favorite Electrolux cleaners from our collection. I am partial to the model G, the bronze colored version from 1966 through 1968. Here is my model G automatic that was rescued from an upper closet at an estate sale. Only one disposable bag from the package had ever been used, and only the crevice tool.

Pictured is also my economy model L with the optional automatic cord rewind. The hose came from the model G from the estate sale, and is completely sealed. The power nozzle runs smooth and quiet.

I very much enjoy using these machines to clean my house, I tend to use the model L and keep the model G in the box looking like the day it came out of the factory. I have enough vintage genuine Electrolux bags that I could change the bag each time I used it and still never run out in my lifetime. I'm very grateful and blessed that my friend Alex Braun rescued the model G for me.

My fav Lux is my model 89. It is so quiet and easy to use. The telescopic wand was an ingenious touch to make vacuuming easier. I love the trigger switch on the hose handle for the power nozzle not to mention the pistol grip handle. The gas pump hose handles found on almost all modern vacs are an annoyance when trying to do above the floor cleaning.

Gary, I agree with you on the Lux 89 as being one of my favorite Canadian Electrolux models as well. So quiet, you barely hear the motor running and mostly the airflow, direct connect hose and wand, well designed hose handle and attachments, and great filtration with the 4 ply paper bags and cloth electrostatic exhaust filter. I usually use HEPA Cloth bags from JohnnyVac in mine though, and since the exhaust filter is obsolete and only low quality aftermarket options available, I cut one to size from a genuine Miele GN bag to replace it. Much higher quality, and allows the air to flow freely.

One Canadian Electrolux I would really like to find though is the E2000. A truly unique model for Electrolux that was the basis for the LE and 2100, and with a better motor.

Favorite Luxes

Couldn't narrow it down to one, so here are my four favorite Electroluxes. First is my Lux XII. A favorite because it's the oldest Lux in my collection and was a gift from good friend and fellow collector Norm Brown when he was downsizing. Thanks again Norm!
Next is the Lux I grew up with, the XXX. Although the one in my collection isn't the one my parents had, I did make sure to have the same extra accessories they had with theirs, including the cord winder, Companion tool holder, sprayer, vaporizer, and floor polisher. While I was selling Electro-Hygienes, Mom's XXX got traded in on a model 966 EH that I bought for her. I got my XXX from ebay when I first started collecting. One interesting thing about it is that it seems to be a transitional version of the XXX. Has the features of the later ones including the "saloon" doors on the back, newer style runners, and the rug nozzle with the gleaner, but still has the 475-watt motor, so I'm thinking it may have been built in early 1948. There's was a bit newer, they bought it in 1952.
My AE was a gift from good friend and fellow collector Tom Anderson (thanks again Tom!) and my paternal Grandparents had one when I was growing up. I used to go to their house with my Aunt and vacuum with it while my Aunt did their laundry. They also had a Filtex that was almost brand new at the time, but when I had my choice, I always grabbed the Lux AE. Never cared much for the Filtex and don't remember why. About the only difference between the AE they had and mine is that theirs had the hoop on the back for the cord, and mine has the cord winder.
My turquoise Lux G was a "must have" for my collection, first because of how powerful yet quiet it is, and also because my Uncle Red sold them! This was the same Uncle who met my Aunt Mary when he was selling Electro-Hygienes years earlier with my Uncle Dick, who introduced them. The year my Dad passed away, we spent Christmas with Aunt Mary and Uncle Red in Lisle, Illinois, about 25 miles west of Chicago. Although I had been using Aunt Mary's AirWay 66 while we were there, one evening Uncle Red brought in his Lux G and did the full demonstration! Then I tried unsuccessfully to talk Mom into buying one! My G is probably the most used of my Luxes and I do have the power nozzle for it, although it isn't in the picture.

It's hard to narrow it down to just one. I love both of my 1205s, but often, when I put a lot of work into a machine, I tend to develop more of an affinity for it, and such is the case with my Silverado deluxe. It's not pretty, actually borders on being a frankenvac, but I put a lot of myself into getting it back into good working order, even if the cord winder doesn't fully retract.

Now, my favorite machine that I don't have is my grandparents' LX. It was still in regular use when my grandfather went into assisted living in the late '90s (my grandmother had passed away a few years earlier), but I have no idea what became of it after that. I keep thinking someday I'd like to run across one, but that day has yet to happen.

I have a Diplomat LX like that. It was a dumpster rescue during the pandemic isolation. I was dropping off a package of toilet paper and a few other essentials at a friend's apartment, and spotted a familiar vacuum cleaner hose handle next to the dumpster. Somebody had cut the cord before throwing it out, but it was otherwise intact. The hose was a generic replacement, but the wand and power nozzle were corrrect. I lucked up on a complete cord winder for it on eBay for cheap the day I rescued it. It didn't work when I got it all back together, due to a bad automatic shutoff valve. I ended up just disconnecting the valve and the machine works just fine. I haven't been too terribly worried about replacing it. The Diplomat is a good little machine, even if I do tend to prefer the metal canisters.

I love the Epic 6500. That was my first Electrolux. I bought it refurbished, off of eBay, back before we bought our house. That was the model I liked best, out of the several different models my mom had owned when I was still at home, and I wanted one of my own.
I believe I have four of them now, if you count the Aerus Lux Legacy, which is essentially the same machine.
One of mine is a 75th anniversary, that needs a complete overhaul. But, I rescued it from the curb, when someone in the neighborhood was tossing it. It was a mess, but I couldn't just leave it there!

Many people think the Super J and the Golden Jubilee models are basically the same, but they are not. The Super J is longer and has a much more powerful motor. Also, the model number of the Golden Jubilee model is 1205 just like the last of the blue 1205 models. Really with the exception of color and handle, the Golden J was a 1205.

It's funny, but Electrolux in that era had a tendency to update model numbers out of sync with the model names and color schemes. The Golden J was indeed a cosmetic update of the 1205, and the earlier Olympia One was really a Super J with a chocolate brown paint job. Likewise, the Silverado was a later Olympia One with a different cosmetic treatment.

Alex, if you want to find a matching filter cover for your Diplomat LX, try calling a few Canadian Aerus dealers and see what they have. That model was also sold here in Canada.

Filter cover...

Another option for finding a filter cover is eBay. People are always parting out vacuum cleaners on there. It can be a bit of a fishing expedition, but you'll eventually find what you need.
