I have to say, I thought the Turbopower 2 and 3 were the best Hoover had made in years. But we must remember that their demise was not largely connected to what they were making, more how they ran their business.

which worked adequately

I completely disagree. The total systems, when compared to Electrolux and Panasonic cleaners of the time, were not better as uprights but very poor on the hose. Other manufacturers where offering equal performance between hose suction and carpet pick up WITH the added bonus of the tools being built onto the machine.

The Turbopower 1 was never meant to have tools and by adding them, Hoover made the machine excessively wide and bulky to use. With the on board hose, the Turbopower 1 didn't reach the edge of the skirting, for example.

I agree, the Turbopower 2/3 had a lot going for them - strong build quality, strong hose suction while remaining quiet, better filtration compared to Turbopower 1 and good performance, certainly better than the later Purepower!

Belt cover off, and it looked like this had never been off before, as the seal all came out too and had to be really tugged apart

Motor removed. Its a good motor with plenty of carbon brush length left and quiet bearings. I bet JMurray would like this motor lol

Fast forward now, having been cleaned, lubricated, new bag and belt fitted, filters washed, and casing polished. Was unable to remove some of the paint from the base, but oh well, its all part of its character.

A nice sweet smelling new bag fitted, and hooray - no smell of dogs any more.

Its a great old TP2, been used a fair bit, but it all works as it should, and the next one I want will be the TP3
