A couple of weeks ago I was browsing eBay and saw a Hoover Senior 652A looking in a very sorry state for £12 ($18US/$25CAD) which apparently had a running motor but needed a complete restoration.  Having always wanted a 652A (granted, in better condition!) I decided to save this poor Senior as nobody else would buy it and it would eventually end up in the dump.  Regardless of its condition, I couldn't let a Hoover die like that!  It needs saved, and I'll save it.

It arrived today whilst I was at work and upon getting home I opened the box to inspect it.  I've not done any work on it or even tested the motor (won't be plugging it in until I give the cable and wiring a once over, despite the seller having apparently tested it to be working fine) but did take a few pictures, which you can find below for your perusal...

Yes, it's a state and yes, it will need a LOT of work and money spent on it.

The two main parts I know immediately that need replacement is the Hedlite lens (cracked) and belt cover (missing), and those two alone will be very hard to find.  But, it isn't going anywhere so I've got time to find those parts.  There's no rush!!

I'd be very interested in getting the year of manufacture though, as it uses the old "J" serial number which I don't know how to date.

Any help and comments would be much appreciated!  I know she's a wreck at the moment, but knowing that I saved her gives me a good feeling inside.  And this Hoover will ROAR again!  You mark my words...

Nice find. I know I have a spare belt cover in the shed (all be it used) so if I can find it you can have it if you want. Might be a while before I find it as it's buried amongst stuff.
