Cheap
Absolutly it was cheap in the UK. I still have a lot of literature and consumer magzines dating back to the mid-1970's and I will have a look at some point to see what Which? say about this cleaner.
The Hitachi cleaners ticked several boxes for UK consumers; they were cheap, small, lightweight, often had no dust-bag (always a plus point for a large % consumers), and -for the safety concious- many came with BEAB approval. I am surprised that I didn't see more of these in my time, although as was often the case with cheap imported cleaners, new parts were considerably expensive when compared to the retail price of the cleaner, and consumers weren't expecting a lifetime of service when they bought the cleaner.
