Heres the latest scam people are doing on Craigslist. I responded to this ad a couple of minutes after it was posted. I received a response back saying it had sold a couple of hours prior, and that if I wanted one to check a certain penny auction site.

The seller obviously never had the rainbow and must work for the penny auction site.

Another scam is a bogus ad that is posted on multiple CL locations.

If something is too good to be true ..

I usually have to respond to my ads with "are you local?", I have toyed around with some of the responders who obviously are just trolling.

AHHH...

"are you local?" is not necessarily a good question.

I've successfully purchased items from people on CL who live on the other side of the country. Some of which I've never even so much as spoke to.

Well it is the newest model. You'd have to look into exact details of the ad to see if it states "Brand New" under the condition. It most likely says "Like New". Though the boxes are there too which is unusual. Most distributors take the boxes with them when they leave after a demo, it helps take away the temptation for a customer to have second thoughts on returning it.

Rainbow has a disclosure page on their website. It's small printed. The user manual would state more about a warranty being genuine if purchased through an authorized distributor.

Also you'd really have to prove that this person didn't sell it the same day after they posted it and was just being helpful in the reference to Penny Auction. There are millions of people online and you never know when someone will see something and prompt an email. I had an item sold with 7 emails received within an hour of posting it on Craigslist one time!!

Generally if a respondent such as a scammer wants you to do something, such as checking out another website, they will have an exact link for you to click on that leads you to their page so they would receive some sort of credit. That page might even ask you to input your basic contact information to stay updated on various things or receive more information.
