Yesterday, I decided to give a friend of mine who runs a small vac shop close to my workplace a call and see if he had run across any old vacs I might be interested in (running or not). He told me that he had a couple of Model L Electrolux vacuums that some lady had traded in and another Electrolux that he said had a purple tone to it, but it needed motor work. So I paid him a visit on my lunch break and by the time I returned to work, I had four additions to my collection....The two model L's actually turned out to be two Model G's that were in VERY good condition, the purple one turned out to be an Electrolux Marquis, and he threw in a very rusty brown Electrolux 1453 that I don't have a clue what I'm going to do with yet! There was a PN2 that came with the G's that looks like it's barely been used so I am SUPER excited about it! The hoses that came with the G's are rather interesting too. The turquoise one appears to be from a Model L, and the older cloth one....well I have NO idea (perhaps someone here can shed some light on it)! Here are some pictures of the machines I scored yesterday (minus the Olympia One which I already had). By the time all was said and done, I paid $15 for every bit of it!

That's a PN1 not a PN2. Nice additions to your collection. I'm lucky if I can get a vac shop to consider selling me an old Lux...

Have you been cultivating that vacuum shop owner with six packs of brown bottles on Friday afternoons? That is an exceptional shop to send you home with that haul. The condition of that old floor brush is unbelievable, but I have to ask is that rust on that brown vac or what? If it is, holy cow.

Tom, great catch! Yes that is a PN1, I got a little carried away typing that one out! Most vac shop owners around here are bad for keeping every metal body Lux they can get their hands on, but I have been dealing with this guy for several years. I've bought vacs from him, sent him customers, and he's even sold a few of my surplus machines for me. So it's worked out mutually for both of us and he knows I'm a collector which helps a lot!

Unfortunately, that is indeed rust all over that 1453, apparently before he got it the poor thing spent it's "golden years" in someone's dank, damp garage. That one we both were afraid to plug in for fear of what might happen! Not sure what, if anything, I can or will do with it! I toyed with the idea of cleaning it out, sanding and painting it and clear coating it and making a mailbox out of it! Who knows though it might surprise me when I get inside and see the motor!

You never know what you'll find inside that rusty tank. I seen worse, but since it wasn't standing in water, the motor only had some very minor surface rust, and I've seen more than a few that looked great on the outside, but someone used them to suck up a few cups of a liquid of your choice and everything inside was rusted solid. Only one way to find out, open her up and take a look see.


 


And I'm jealous as hell... the only PN I don't have a good example of is the PN1... I have 2 but both are, shall we call them rough, rough as in beat to hell. One is so banged up it flings dirt out the edges. Someday...
