I went and saw Seamus the there day and came back with a car full of interesting vacs as usual :)

1982 Hoover Junior Compact U2210
1974 Hoover Convertible U4003
1983 Hoover Ranger Exclusive U4274
1979 Hoover Ranger U4014
1964? Hoover Constellation 867

Some of these are a first for me, i've never owned a Junior Compact before nor a Convertible. the Convertible being quite a rare US made one. I fell in love with the Co-op Exclusive Ranger as soon as I saw it, its a gorgeous colour scheme and in really lovely condition

July 1982 Junior Compact U2210 all lit up, for some strange reason the headlamp had been disconnected on this one but after reconnecting it, it works fine

still working on the others but will post pics shortly, the new arrivals prompted me to take a few group shots, first up, all my Hoover vacuums together. 1964-1994

Nice collection of Hoovers there, Ryan!

But if I was you, I would get that Filter Queen hidden before John Long "Gottahaveahoover" aka The Crazy Hoover Guy sees it & throws a fit! You might just get a stern lecture about using non-Hoover vacuums if you don't. :-)

Just Kidding, John! :P

lolol Were you kidding? Were you REALLY??

How did you get that U.S. Convertible? It's one of my favorites! It looks so funny with that big plug.Do you have the attachments? If not, we must find you some.
A non-HOOVER cleaner---hidden? That's not what I'd do with it, but, do I bash?

4003

John

The 4003 was sold here for a short period in the mid 1970s alongside the US manufactured Constellation 868. I believe that they may have been brought over during a strike in the UK. These have been discussed before and I recall that the Connies were actually built in 1970 (but not sold then), I am not so sure about the 4003 - I think possibly 1973,

Curiously they (both) also came with the full US tool set as well, not with UK manufactured tools

Hi guys :)

Got the Convertible from Seamus because he's thinning down his collection a bit whereas I appear to be increasing mine slightly lol

The U4003 really is a rare sight in this country, it's a lovely machine and i'm proud to finally have a US Hoover in my collection. standard UK Senior tools seem to fit ok but it would be nice to have a proper US kit to match.

The Filter Queen or Queenie as she is affectionately known as, is my daily driver. Again, another one from Seamus. It's a great all-rounder

From what I was told it was the threat of strike which Hoover were faced with, rather than an actual strike of any noticeable size, which is why the cleaners were built when they were, but held in reserve in case stocks of UK built cleaners were running short. When one considers the popularity of the UK senior and Constellation cleaners from this period of time, let alone the Hoover Junior 1346 and 1354, I think it is fair to say that no such shortage probably ever occurred and the cleaners were simply sold off. However, Hoover did then of course introduce into their main range two Celebrity cleaners built in the USA. I believe that to be a belt & braces approach to any potential situation where stocks of UK cleaners might run low. Hoover were very limited as to what models they could bring over as there seemed to the a lot less choice on the USA market. The Hoover Starlight upright was built in France if I remember rightly, which would have been something of an alternative to a Junior. Can anyone confirm if I am right about it being French?

funnily enough I have a Starlight sitting in my living room at the moment, made in Great Britain apparently lol
