Some how it uses water to filter or separate. I'm not sure if it emptys itself but I think it needs a water connection to work.
It's an interesting vacuum and rare.

I don't know exactly how the Sears one works. I don't think it's a complicated as Augu-Airs product or as versatile.

I think the water just fills the vacuum and is used for cathing the gunk and flushing it. That's it.

But I'm sure someone has the Sears catalog listing for it. I might even, just not handy at the moment. I think it was 1968.

It is really cool to see one of these machines in the wild - I can't imagine they sold too many of them, and to see a survivor 50 years later is remarkable!

The wet/dry Kenmore unit could be used for wet pickup, floor scrubbing, drain unclogging, etc., similar to how the Aqua-Air is advertised. It also has an automatic discharge of vacuumed contents down the drain, as Aqua-Air (and Drainvac) today.

The biggest difference in the unit itself is that on the modern wet/dry systems, the incoming dirt is misted by a water spray located on the intake neck where the piping meets the unit. In the Kenmore system, the machine filled with water upon activation (using a washing machine-type fill valve and diaphragm switch) and then as you cleaned the debris (wet or dry) entered and mixed into the water. Like a built-in Rainbow.
