I bought this vacuum for 20$, it came with 45$ of filter with it.
The brushroll was not working.
First think I did, was to throw away the used bag.
When I take the bag out of the vacuum, the bag was so full, it was like a brick.
I took it home and check the brush roll, it was jammed, I turn it with my hand and free turn after.
I press the belt reset button and the brushroll was working.
After that I open it, little dust in the bag compartiment and none with the motor.
I change all three filter and it run great.

"Elegance" is what Sears calls the Progressive line in Canada because the word is spelled the same in French as it is in English!

Je ne savais pas qu'il n'y a pas de Progressive ici au Canada.
La couleur blanche lui donne un petit côté chic.
Je trouve cette aspirateur silencieux et la brosse pour tapis est "autopropulsé".
Le guide Protégez-vous lui a donné une note de 83% et les points négatifs sont le bruit et le poids, mais portant je le trouve bon pour le bruit.

The top edge of the pre-motor filter CF-1 should all be tucked under the rubber flap that runs over the top of the filter frame and the filter material should be nice, smooth and tucked in, otherwise dirt can get past it and will.

These vacuums will withstand tremendous abuse and still run well after a clean up and new filters. Did you remove the motor and blow all the dust out of it with compressed air? I recommend it if you haven't already. I have one I need to get back together that was so filled with dust you couldn't even see inside the fields nor could you see the commutator. Packed with dust and lint. A half hour of cleaning, including removing the brushes and blowing the dirt out of them and the motor looked like new inside, nice clean commutator and almost full length brushes. Amazing the abuse they withstand.

They're not as durable as their ancestors. We had a progressive for a good 7 years or so, it was a good vacuum. Then plastic bits broke off at random, and EVERYWHERE! That and the hose was falling apart!


 


How do you spell 'Progressive' in French?

I don't have a compressor, when the vacuum is really dirty. I take the motor at my parent's house and I use their compressor.

I replaced the all the filter, including the CF-1 and I washed the foam filter.

Progressive is Progressif in French

Yeah, but you have to say it with a certain flair Alex. Not sure the southern tongue can go there.

I have a new Progressive as a durability experiment, so we shall see. The dirty one I have apart was a freebee from a shop that the owner died and was being cleared out. Man that thing was hammered, but it is still in one piece and everything works. The motor cleaned up and looks pristine inside. It had so much wear the cord had worn grooves in the body from rubbing during the many times it was retracted. Even wore a tiny hole in one spot. I am going to try some JB weld on it . Bondo will be too soft and the color of JB Weld kinda matches the dark gray of the lower body. It's a project. If it ends up looking horrible I can use it to vacuum the dog hair on the patio.

Bebring, atta boy, nice job of tucking in the filter. I'm not digging the new style CF-1 filter media. I liked it's predecessor better in part because it was a touch thicker and you could wash and reuse it. The new one has charcoal on one side so you cannot wash it.

One thing about the French language, if you go to Quebec, their accents & way of speaking the French language is different than if you went to France & heard French being spoken there. Nothing wrong with either, just the Quebecer's have evolved their own "type" of French over centuries of French people being in Canada.

I still like hearing (reading it ) reminds me so much of South Florida where you hear every language being spoken. Plus the fact the guy I was going with for 2 years was French Canadian ~
