This past weekend while in Kansas City I brought home six uprights including: five convertibles and one self-propelled Eureka. The 34 was found at a thrift store and the 707, 66 and the plastic base convertible were found at three separate estate sales. I purchased the Eureka from Mr. Fix It’s vac shop in Kansas City. It’s a shame the 66 is lacking the original bag and cord but it runs very well. The bag collar had become lose and the motor compartment was full of bird seed and threads. The red convertible with the red striped bag was found in the trash with its cord cut. It’s amazing that most of the vacuums we find in the trash work great after a little TLC.

 
So now I have the 65, 66, 69, 34, 35, 1010, U4003, U4005, 1076, 704, 728, 707 and the 593 of the metal based convertibles. Hopefully, I’m finished. With these new finds I will be busy for quite a while; sorting and cleaning.

Also, Chad Cunningham found the this Eureka canister at an Estate Sale. I knew I wanted it so I purchased it from him. Chad also found this portable in the trash.

That's a nice lot of convertibles I really like the eureka aswell.

On a different not I like your Taurus , I remember how much of a stir it caused when they launched them.

My dad bought the Taurus at a police auction three years ago. My dad practically picked it out for me. He and my grandfather are big Ford guys. So far it's been a good car. I really didn't have a choice in the matter. I asked my dad to pick me out a reliable car and he did.

Hi Joe,

The U4413 didn't work when I bought it. So the Estate Sale company let me have it for a dollar and fifty cents. It had been sitting in a basement. I imagine it's probably the switch since I'm using the cord on the other plastic base found in the trash. I plan on using the U4413 for parts.

Hopefully I can get my garage cleaned out soon. After this huge hall, it really looks cluttered

On the Eureka!

I'm not really a big fan of the Eureka uprights, but this self-propelled model is amazing. The self propelled feature works very smoothly and it doesn't leave those big "tire tracks" on my carpet like the DAM and my former Concept. When I brought the Eureka home I tried to remove the top blue plastic strip on the bag and it broke the two little posts that hold the bag up. The outer bag was nasty on the inside and needed to be washed. Has anyone else had this happen? Forgive me I'm not familiar with Eureka uprights. The pancake motors look challenging so I leave those alone.

I have almost all of those!

Big surprise, huh? I need a bag for the 68, a grren hood and bag for the 66. Dennis Jones gave me the 'tigerstripe' plastic "Haney". MINT condition, a treasured vac, even though it's plastic, because it was a personal gift. I have a few 707s, hideous, but, like a 28, if you collect, you MUST have them. Anxious to see these specimens rehabbed. Get to work there!

Nice Vacs

All very nice,or will be.The Eureka self propelled has to by seen to understand how nice it is.Not the first,but possibly the best.Motor can usualy be left alone.Belt for SP makes it more complicated but gives little trouble.One of few problems can be frayed,broken power drive cable(at bottom).Yours looks to new for this.After long years of searching I have all 2 digit model convs.Not all with original bag or cord.Have you seen both 31s?For me the hardest to find was 34 with proper bag.Not so for you!If you need more point the Taurus toward TN.The place of which we do not speak may have "about a hundred"Convertibles.This would be in 'Rainman mathmatics'.If you haven't seen Rainman,do so.If you like Dustin Hoffman,see The Graduate.If you like The Graduate,download some Simon&Garfunkel--

That's a beautiful orange Eureka Roto-Matic Power Team! I believe it is the middle of the line-up from the very first line that debuted in 1973. It should be Model 1260 if I am not mistaken. The 1240 was a harvest gold version with no headlight on the nozzle and no control panel on the canister. The top of the line should be an Empress II version Model 1280 if I remember correctly.

Your orange Eureka canister was number two in Consumer Reports' rankings of all power nozzle canisters in 1974. A really great performer from the "Golden Age" of the Eureka Company.

I've been using the Eureka canister for the past two days. It may need some bearing work in the future. Phillip may have to help with this since he is the local expert on Eureka canisters. I haven't started on the 34, 66 or the 707 but I plan to do so this weekend. The 707 must be a common model, because I've seen four of them in the past two years, or they were popular in my area. Who knows!
 
John - I like the tigerstripe Convertible as well. It seems very deluxe with the hand grip and headlight.
 
Brandon - The color on the 66 is just okay to me. The 65 and 69 had a better color scheme. But that's just my opinion. The original bag would probably make it look even better. Thanks for responding.[this post was last edited: 5/1/2012-13:02]

Interestingly enough, I have found no less than four Model 34 Convertible's in my travels. One being the one Kenny has. So my town must have sold a ton of that model where I live.
