Kirby?

That hand vac was made not only for Kirby, but also for some half dozen or so other companies too. I had the Craftsman version once. Interestingly, they use virtually the same GS electric motor used in the Dirt Devil hand vacs, Boom Vac, and many canister power nozzles.

I used to have a Panasonic Jet-Flo handheld that looked very similar! It’s gone now but I remember it well.

Long ago I also bought a funky little brown “Dirt Vac” with a cloth outer bag similar to the Red Dirt Devils.. I don’t remember the brand name (I’m thinking Panasonic for some reason?) but I found a random picture when googling 80’s hand vacuums. Lol

I’ve owned a dozen or so hand Vacuums somewhat similar, but all the newer ones I own are all Bagless, which I dislike! I’m SO buying the Oreck Pod!

Anyhow I grabbed just a few of my Corded hand Vacuums to see if any of you can tell me or share information.. if mine have another company branded “Twin” to these? So many companies owned by so few now.. I’d love to know more please. Oh and I also heard there were other colors besides Red to the Dirt Devil (with the cloth outer bag)

Before anyone says it.. I understand my Purple Riccar Model is also sold as a Spruce Green Simplicity, and a Red Fuller Brush! My Fuller Brush was tucked somewhere in storage since I like the Riccar two speed with LEDs better, I use the Riccar.

Thanks, Patrick

The Dirt Vac was made by Black and Decker. I would like to have one. The cool thing about them is that they have a vertical motor shaft so their fan is on the underside like on a Hoover Convertible.

Hey

Thanks for the info. Royal and dirt devil are one in the same riccar simplicity. I'm not sure but the eureka looks like a shark. The riccar is sweet looking which of the group has best performance. I had red royal and a blue shark that looks like your eureka and my wife has a new shark portable. The sharks are better than the royal. I was suprised but the royal was horrible. The older shark blue in color I'll post Pic later is good but it runs hot. Newest shark runs cool and has power. I was thinking of a black and decker since I already have battery and they seem to be highest rated out of newest hand vacs.

I Like and use them all but my favorite, for two reasons, is the Red Dirt Devil.. one it’s the first handheld I bought myself and two it’s got disposable bags inside the red cloth bag!

Now from my personal experience the Purple Riccar two speed with bright LED lights and attachment hose performs the best. It cleans the dog hair the best and I love how when you detach the hose to use it, the brushroll automatically stops spinning. It also has a nicer natural hair brush on the hose and the brushroll is a good design. But again it’s bagless, a little easier to empty and has sealed HEPA filtration.

Practicality speaking, the small Black and Red trim Dirt Devil is the winner because it’s shorter and smaller in general so it’s easier to clean the car or furniture in the corners, etc. but no hose attached and I’m not sure if the pleated paper filter is HEPA.. I don’t think it is but still ok at filtration.

Lastly the Blue Eureka with the Riser Visor is the largest, bulkiest and horrible to empty and the filter doesn’t filter much out and gets clogged fast and requires the most maintenance. Also, no auto switch on the brushroll so you turn it from off to suction only then to suction with brushroll. It’s also the loudest and the bulkiest to try and use. I still like it but it just requires more maintenance.

I also have about 10 or 12 cordless handheld vacuums I didn’t include, like the Dyson V6 and Dyson V6 Mattress, I have about 6 Dirt Devils, 4 Hoover and a few odd brands I can’t remeb that I bought on Amazon. My favorite and currently most used one was the Dyson V8 Absolute but I’m falling in love with this Hoover REACT cordless! I cleaned all the main area floors in the living room, kitchen, dining and one bedroom, thoroughly and used about 1/3rd of one battery. I have a second battery, the powered mini brushroll and all the other hand held attachments and I like it all so far. Only slight annoyance is it’s a bit more work to empty. The Dyson V8 you pull up on the release and whoosh all the debris gets swiped off the center screen and it all goes in the trash. The Hoover I’ve had to reach in and pull a bit of fluff and Pet hair off the center screen. Also the Hoover is standard filtration, Not HEPA like the Dyson. But in fairness, I don’t sneeze using either one.

I just cannot wait for the Oreck Pod! I know it’s outrageously priced but that’s how much I Hate bagless! If I didn’t love vacuums and collect them, I’d never be convinced to buy bagless again. Just my preference. Thanks guys!

Honest noe

Thanks for your input. I looked up riccar it's a little pricey but it's a riccar and you know it performs well. I bought the Douglas super bee in link for $25. I was at thrift store and seen a eureka exactly like yours it was clogged I was trying to unclog when I found a gem. I think it's a early 80s royal prince. I was so excited to try it out and I broke the belt. I still turned it on and it's motor spins nicely.
I'll let you guys know how Douglas and royal perform.

Love the Royal Prince...

I have two of those and they are excellent. One is a late '80s version, same color scheme as above except it has a little metal guard in front of the power switch. I picked that one up at a thrift shop for just under $3. The other is a 1960s version with a red and gray cloth bag. I've found they can take the paper bags for the red dirt devil hand vacs. You just need to install the outer bag upside down (logo facing down).

I own a DirtVac

It was made by Black and Decker. Had it since it was new. It was also sold under a Dirtbuster model as well, which honestly I think they are both the same vacuum.

Les,

Sorry to hear you broke the belt on this Royal Prince!

A new one is part no. 1-157260-001. It has to be installed in the exact same way you would hook a up a belt on a Royal metal upright: the front of the belt must face you. But on the early Dirt Devil hand vacs, the back of the belt would face you instead.
