results after deep cleaning my 10 x 12 room and small walk in closet with my kirby tradition. there was such much stuff in the bag from this i had to shake it out 4 times to get everything out. also used miracle head before emptying as well. my carpet nap actually hasn't been this fluffy in a number of years....

Amazing isn't it?

Even though they leak dust horribly the shake out bags are nice at times so you can see what kind of things you are picking up. Even after i just vacuumed the Dual 80, or any kirby will still find fine dust and grit

Deeeeeeep cleaner.....

Kirbys are GREAT deep cleaners. My GSix seems to clean better after I installed the new style brush roller into it. I will always use a Kirby when I want to give my home a through cleaning.

I let my mom borrow a G5 that I was going to sell for $150. She wanted to vacuum her house really good before it got steam cleaned, so I told her she could borrow it and give it a good test drive (it was dead when I got it, I opened it up and cleaned the contacts and changed the cord end and it magically started working, but I wanted to make sure it would keep working before I sold it.) Anyways she liked how well it cleaned she wanted to keep it. lol

The G series are great cleaners but I prefer the size and design of the "Classic" Kirbys, I have a Tradition and Heritage84 setup with cloth HEPA bags, I need to get some ball bearing rollers for them for the best performance. I'm lazy so I have the Tradition with the nozzle attached for doing the carpet, and the H84 with the hose connected so I just grab which one I need. LOL

i hear a few of you mention your shake bags leak. i use two as daily drivers (tradition and classic omega) and i don't have dust leakage at all. are your bag springs tight? emptied after every use? washed if need be? if they are old enough to leak that badly and the above mentioned doesn't cure the issue, a new bag is in order. if they are super old machines i wouldn't use them as daily drivers if you want the original bag and it has fabric damage or a bag spring.

Will, what they are referring to when they say it leaks like a sieve is the filtration, which I pointed out in my post on your other thread where I said that dust leeching through the bag is simply part of using old Kirby shakeouts vs modern bags.

Will I have several shakeout bags that have small hole on the bottem rear of the bag(just above the spring) that must be the weakest point of the bag. So yes, those leak and people should inspect their bags. If you really like the bag and it has a hole, you could always add a zipper and a fill tube for paper bags.

;)

oh ok.. that makes sense all. nice :) i like the dump bags better provided the bags are in good shape :) my trad has a new oem bag on it (its only a few months old) and is made out of the same fabric as the heritage style bags. it filters a TON better than say the omega bag. not that the omega bag is crap, but it lets a lot less air out on the trad bag.

HEPA Conversion

I did that to my Tradition. First, pop out the Tradition bag mounting collar from the Em-tor. Then all you need is a bag mounting collar from a Heritage. Use a 1/8 inch drill bit to drill holes in the Em-Tor flange so you can attach the bag mounting collar to it. On the one I had, the gasket was a little leaky, so I put a bead of silicone calk around it. You'll also need the wire re-enforced fill tube and bag adapter from an early G series Kirby. Just use a couple of zip ties on each end to attach. A very simple and straight forward conversion.

One more thing...

If you're currently using the Tradition shake-out bag, then there won't be a fill-tube mounting collar to pop out. Also, Kirby still makes the full length zipper bag. Hope this helps!

Easier conversion:

Use a Mini-emtor & filltube assembly from the HeritageII, rather than drill holes into an original Sani-emtor which can't be replaced easily, then fit a Tradition Long-zip style outer bag onto that, fit the hanger & trim, and it's done...

Plus the Mini-Emtor lightens that side of the vac so there's less tendency for it to tip over on the backstroke over onto that side, so makes it easier to manoeuvre...

Basically like what I did with my D80 (and you can see the same on my Trad in the background), only you can get a matching bag for the Trad:

oh guys, i didn't convert it to a bagged system. it's a new shake bag with the newer heritage bag style material. it still has a sani pocket. and yes emtor tray gasket replacement i something i do matter matter what on any sanu emtor kirby. it HAD an original bag system and removed the bag and tube assembly, bought a NEW oem shake bag for my trad. works wonderfully.

@joe - Currently I have the same Heritage II mini-emtor setup like twocvbloke has above. It works very well but hard to tell the difference from my Heritage which has the sani-emtor and HEPA bags as well.

When I have time I do plan on altering the original sani-emtor (exactly the same way as what eurekastar mentioned above) so that it has the original appearance. ;)
