I have two vintage Kirbys that have the same problem. One is my Legend II, and the other is a Tradition. Both run and clean well. The problem is that the toe-touch lever slips from the upper position downward three or more clicks when I press it with my foot. I have more success when I place my hand on the control and gently use my thumb to lower it one click at a time to the desired height. I welcome any advice if there is a fix for this and how to go about it.

Kirby height adjustment...

Hello Joseph.

When that happens with the height adjustment on a Kirby, it is the front axle shaft assembly 'teeth' or the ratchet lock assembly 'teeth' being worn. Or, a combination of both.

If you have further questions about this or other Kirby questions, shoot me an email & I will provide you all of my contact info.

Cheers & hagn/d all,

Bill

Hit it with a hammer!!

Seriously, this is something Dave (former vac shop manager) taught be before he passed. Remove the axle and give the open area with the teeth in it a few taps to tighten it

Thanks for the helpful suggestions. It looks like I'll have to be prepared to take things apart and try to see what I can do. No can do this week. Will get at it next week.

Blackheart, I hadn't considered using a hammer but, truth told, I've taken that approach to rectify other problems--and--if a hammer can fix the camera during the moon walk, then it's certainly worth a try.
