Kirby tech drive repair question

These are quite reliable.
I have taken one apart before just to see how it worked.
Overall it is pretty simple - a gear/clutch disc/pressure plate set for forward and another for reverse.
As long as it looks clean inside, the clutches are free from oil, and nothing looks overly worn or broken, then it should be good.

There are some adjustment screws to help compensate for disc wear. Care must be taken when adjusting.

I think I posted my teardown with pics on this site somewhere long ago - I will see if I can find it.

Needed a little 'persuading'...

Tech Drive transmissions are, indeed, very durable. The only trouble I've ever had with one was not with the transmission itself, but with the sliding plate mechanism between the transmission and the handle that activates the forward or reverse modes.

The one on my G3 was stuck in reverse and I had to use a 'persuader' (aka rubber mallet) to gently knock it loose. After that, and a thorough lubrication, it worked perfectly.
