That speed switch was unique to the Ultimate G diamond edition. Apparently, too many users left it in the 'low' position, burned out their motors, an hit Kirby up for a warranty repair so it was deleted from subsequent models. The only thing I've never been quite clear on is whether the regular Ultimate G, without the speed switch, came before or after the diamond edition or whether the two were produced simultaneously and the speed switch was thus an optional upgrade.

Garry,

That's the switch for the Delicate mode, which is used for cleaning low-pile carpets.

This particular switch should NOT be left switched on if you desire to use the hose or the Carpet Shampoo System.

I think the DE came after. My family got our Ultimate G fairly early in 2002 and there was no mention by the salesman or anyone of the Diamond Edition.

The way that Kirby has worded their biopic on the website makes it seem that the Ultimate G was first, then the Diamond came.

However due to the aforementioned problems with the Diamond Edition with idiots burning the motor out leaving it on low speed, I have found that the Diamond Edition is significantly rarer than the Ultimate G to come across. I guess that many people really ruined them. I first found out about it in 2018 and it took me 3 years of hunting to find one, I found one on shopgoodwill.com and got it for about $28 including delivery.

Button worked great on thicker rugs. If you used it on regular speed it would get stuck with carpet Bound up on it. I did maintenance on my mother In laws vacuum. I have used it on her thick rugs and carpet and j

Anyone familiar with Physics knows as an electric motor runs slower, the heat it generates decreases. Stop the Diamond Edition overheating myth!

If the vacuum spins at 2500 rpm for atheist 2 minutes with the switch on. This makes the brush spin maybe 2000 rows a minute. This puts constant stress on the motor and it causes the temperature to rise 2 degrees every 2 seconds. It also decreases the airflow creating even more heat. That switch will kill the vacuum one way or another relatively speaking.
