I am posting this in both the Vintage and Contempoarry because it applies to both. What are some ideas or tricks for keeping the Kirby Shine after you polish it up nice. I want to get my machines shined up and would like to know of a way to keep them that way other than re-polishing them when they start looking bad. I've seen wiping down with Windex. What about a quick wipe down with Mother's Polish? I am looking for something that is as easy wipe down you can do after each use of like once a month to keep from having to do a major polish job. Thanks up front for your input.

Windex will corrode the aluminum over time. The ammonia in it will make the aluminum kind of yucky and make it dull.

Once you've shined up a Kirby, if you hit it with a quick polish with Mother's polish every 6 months or so, it'll stay looking like new. I hit mine with just a cloth towel every 6-8 months or so and I haven't had to repolish one yet. The same applies to Royals or any other aluminum cleaner. Works well for Chrome hoods on Eurekas too!

i was told by one of my retired customers that he would from time to time polish up his kirby with super fine steel wool..followed up by a once a week pledge spraydown and wipe/buff to a brite shine...never tried this or seen it done ...but that kirby had a great shine to it...

Deep Scratches

Bill,

Only way to remove deep scratches is by buffing with a bench polisher with an aggressive compound, or resort to sandpaper, as I had to do on a few really deep scratches on my Sanitronic. I was able to sand/blend the deep scratches out, then buff it to a nice shine. It took about 2-3 days of work on the nozzle, but it turned out nice! Before and after picture below. Also, note that the cleaner is just mocked together for a quick photo.
