on most older kirbys say 517's 560's d-50's & so on the bags when inflated will stand on their own when unclipped from the handle but if you wash the bag they seem to loose their holding power is this because the years old dirt is washed out from between the fibers the bag is made of?? i know some are made of thinner material but the old good fabric ones are the ones i have the ?? about. any & all thoughts welcomed.

It's exactly as you surmised...

because you washed the bag the pores allow more air to flow through; in other words, there is less resistance and ultimately there is less pressure. It the pores of the bag were laden with dust, there would be more of an urgency for the "clean air" to escape placing more pressure inside the bag. The bag is also harder in this case. Conversely, a clean bag will be softer to squeeze when inflated-and the machine will sound a little more louder as you will hear more air rushing through the clean bag.
