I know I've been uncomplimentary about Kirby on here in the past due to what I consider to be cons. It's very heavy ( not in use but carrying upstairs etc) bulky, noisy etc. But I am now thinking of buying a used Sentria on Ebay not to use as a daily driver but as a deep cleaner every week or 2. I think it would be good for that purpose.

I've seen them go for around £200 so I may place a bid. :-)

Nice!

Sounds like a good idea, hope you like it. Hearing all the raving that goes in about Kirby's, they must be good. I would also like a Sentria personally, it looks like such a cool multifunctional machine! 😃😃😃

They are good. But as Marcus said, they're also bulky, heavy and noisey. I'd also like to add expensive and impractical to that list.

Contratry to what seems to be popular belief on these parts, no one vacuum will suit every individual and forming an opinion based on hearsay is NEVER a wise thing to do. Just because someone says something is good, doesn't automatically make something good for you. I mean, Argos Value bagless vacuums and cheap Vax uprights get 5 star reviews from the general public online, yet we all know they're poop.

Kirby's are great cleaners, but they're not as straight forward as just plug in and go straight out of the box, hence the need for in-home demo's and DVD manual's.

I'd always recommend trying before you buy. It's a big adjustment to go from using an out of the box vacuum to using a Kirby if you've never had one before.

I think even the die hard Kirby fans would agree that it's important to "test drive" any new purchase (not just a Kirby and not just a vacuum) before commiting yourself to it.

This is true Chris. Kirbys are not for everyone but I might give it another try. It won't be my main cleaner: but it's a nice cleaner to have in a collection and as a deep cleaner every week or 2 it might work for me, i will only be using it on carpet i won't be using all the attachments. I have got some ear plugs at the ready:-)

A Kirby is not good for everyone

Some people are too weak to carry the heavy machine, of course, they put wheels on them so they will roll so this makes it much easier.

Though Kirbys are not that much heavier than other machines on the market this seems to be what the detractors zero in on when they don't have anything else negative to say.

A Hoover Wind Tunnel self-propelled weighs in at around 18lbs. A Dyson at around 18 lbs, a Rainbow at around 26 lbs, a Lux with power nozzle at around 25 lbs, a Simplicity Synergy at around 20 lbs. But those extra two or three pounds that a Kirby weighs is more than some can handle.

Noise is relative, but I do perceive the G series Kirbys to be a higher pitched noise than some of the older Generations. However, the previously mentioned Hoover is sometime perceived to be much louder, as with the Synergy. Now if you want a silent machine I would suggest you go with a central vac or maybe a Lux Guardian Platinum.

For cleaning abilities the previously mentioned machines are all good at what they do. If you want an upright with good cleaning ability, less weight and lower noise levels try a Sanitaire blue line with disposable bag.

*Mentioned weights are from memory so if I am off, I have no doubt someone will correct me, but you get the point.

I think my Felix is about 14lbs so that's quite a bit lighter and a lot quieter.

And that's a good idea putting wheels on a Kirby, those Americans aren't stupid are they! :) But you can't wheel them up the stairs. I'm not weak i have bulging biceps :p

But as i say i'm going to give it another go.[this post was last edited: 2/18/2015-07:49]

Yes i like the Diamond that was the last Kirby i owned but some say there was a problem with the hi/low switch? So this time i thought i'd give the Sentria a go. There's plenty to choose from on Ebay

LOL, yes, it's... MIRANDASINGS! The best singer in the world. Better than Beyonce, Eminem, Tupac, Katy Perry, Nicki Minaj, Rihanna and Cheryl Cole! She beats them all XD 😂

Well said, Chris! I hate how you need to take the cleaner head off to use the hose, then grab your box of tools etc, like wth? With my trust machine the hose and wand are ready to use within a blink of an eye!

That ain't hard, none of those singers are any good. Except Beyonce, she's got a killer voice but she's not a particularly good song writer.

BTW Eminem is the rap king

That's debatable. Rap existed LONG before anyone had heard of Eminem and he's not even responsible from bringing rap into the mainstream - it was popular before he came along. And rapping isn't singing.
