Does anyone else feel that all of the other Kirby G Series self propel feel much quicker and easier to use than the Sentria? Whenever I use my Sentria, the self propel feels very slow and weak. Just wondering if anyone else has noticed this..
Thanks,
Chase

The best and smoothest transmission I have ever used was on a G3 of all machines!

Never used a sentria. Used all the others and cant find too much of a difference between them. I had a diamond that was SUPER jerky. A pain to use. I guess it needed to be adjusted.

Depends on how old or worn out they are, my G5 was a tad slow until I gave it an oiling in a few places, and my G3's transmission was loud and jerky until, you guessed it, I greased it (well, greased the flat roller bearings, oiled the bronze sleeve bearings), and that quietened it down and stopped it being jerky... :)

So, like any transmission, lube it if it's not working right, bearings will only last so long when bone dry, and inside of a Kirby techdrive can get pretty dirty with the clutch plate material getting everywhere, so they do need servicing every now and then, you just have to ignore the "breaking this seal will void the warranty" sticker, and have a modicum of bravery.... :P

Not to mention, under the power switch pedal, there's an adjuster nut, fiddle with that and you can get it to work a bit faster going forwards or backwards (depending on how you adjust it), and of course adjusting the slide bracket on the top where the handle connects... :)

Thanks! I'll give it a shot. We bought it brand new in April of 2008, and it was used for about 2 years and then my parents just quit using it and it was given to me. And I don't prefer it, so it has been sitting for a while. I'm guessing that is the issue

No worries, the easiest part to do is the external adjustments, getting down and dirty with the guts of the transmission is quite daunting and time consuming, cos you have lots of little things that like to go wandering off where you're working... :S

That said, when I pulled my G3's transmission apart, I did it on the lowest part of a room, the floor, so I couldn't drop anything on there and lose it in a hurry... :P
