Can anyone tell me the details on the Kirby Rebuild Program.

1) Do they actually require the original proof of purchase on 50 year old machines?

2) Are they rebuilt using same trim color, etc. as originally manufactured with?

I've seen threads with photos of the D80 and another with the Classic Omega which apparently had been sent in and restored back to original colors, but another thread I recall was concerned about them changing the trim colors.

3) Costs per model?

I would eventually like to pickup some machines and send them in for rebuilding.

While I am capable of repairing Kirbys, I have no interest in sandblasting and buffing out the housings, etc. due to the mess.

Little extra knowledge

I have a 518 rebuilt in 2004. They did a beautiful jub but they didn NOT use the original colors. They used tan. It is a beautiful vacuum but not "original". Don't know the cost as I bought it after rebuild but they did a nice job.

Cheers, Floyd

As a Kirby trainer for several years I can tell you this, find a local dealer to rebuff your Kirby(s) because yes, it is for the original owner only. I can also tell you that the Kirby company does not have a stockpile of parts. They replace with the color that is being used now. Also, it applies to the power plant, rug nozzle, Sani-Em-Tor, bag, and cord. They do not buff the handle and forget about tools.

I learned this the hard way and while the finish was wonderful it's far better to do it yourself or have a friend in the club do it for you.

Thanks for your reply Alex.

Last week I tried for several hours off and on calling the rebuild dept on a non toll free # only to receive an answering machine. I then called the main toll free # and asked the operator if anyone was in the rebuild dept., his reply was that the rebuild dept. was on the other side of town and that he could only transfer my call.

Best Regards,

Ray
