Im having some trouble with my vacuum after a complete teardown and rebuild. Greased, oiled and cleaned everything beautifully as well as replacement of the carbon brushes. Since I've done this and got it all back together, the belt lifter gets blazing hot,the belt seems to be riding on the edge of the belt lifter hook burning the belt, the motor is running slower and weaker And there is almost no suction. I've rebuilt 5 others the exact same and all work great and lay down a beating. What did I do wrong here? I'm stumped.. Thinking about it now more. Do you suppose the brush wires being accidentally put on backwards could do this?

Kelton,

I have since uploaded this manual in PDF form to the numerous Facebook vacuum groups we belong to (Antique, Vintage and Classic Vacuum Cleaners; Vacuum Cleaner Collectors Group; and the like), with the title "Kirby 1CR-1CB-2CB Service Manual 1977" and it can be found in each group's Files section.

Yes a non Facebook link would be appreciated. I have never had a Fakebook account and never will. Tried to make one to buy a vacuum off their classified section and they wanted my photo ID and social security card. No way. They banned my account as well because I refused to put my real name. Sooner that site goes bankrupt and goes offline the better.

I totally agree Husyvacs. Its amazing how many people are only too keen to part with all their details for Facebook, Twitter, Apple, Siri/Alexa... Facebook wanted me to send a full scan of my Passport!
Our banks won't allow some simple online purchases now, unless you subscribe to Online Banking and Mobile App.
I think I'm only a few steps away from living off-grid and lining the walls with tin-foil 😁

Fakebook wants your ID and so-called security number??
OMFG........speechless.....
Never been there, never will. I have the domain blocked on my machine due to other sites cross-scripting from them for unwanted reasons.
Other so-called media sites I blocked as well for same reason.
I only believe that real friends don't make friends join those scammy sites to remain friends with them.

I buy on ebay for some things, not too bad, except they try to save your CC every time you check out. And if it remembers a card, you can never remove it.
They constantly try to get my cell number - won't happen.
Selling on ebay is now ridiculous, so probably cant do that now. I sure miss the old days...
I wish someone would come up with a simple site where people can just sell old unwanted stuff out of their garage and attics............. Ebay ruined that model.

Craigslist is rather dead now - hard to even get a scam reply now!
I was lucky and finally sold a mint complete 8mm film camera and projector set - after 3 months being listed.
Not sure how to sell stuff now.

I can see why I find so many good usable things on the curb now.
I have pretty much started donating most of my unwanted stuff, or giving away to local friends/family.

It would be nice if we could have an online repository for these old manuals, where any of us can access them. I do not know how to do such a thing - IT is not my specialty...

I have the Heritage service manual, the parts lists from 505-Heritage, and the Tradition engineering service bulletin for converting the safety switch to the fan case type.
I had scanned these from the paper copies I got from the Plano shop that closed in 2019.

If someone sets up a repository, I will contribute the above three.
I also have a lot more documentation form the Plano shop that I could scan if needed.

Can you tell me what was causing the belt to ride against the lifter causing it to

heat up so badly. Was the lifter loose and leaning in on the belt as it rotates?

Some times I have to use my finger to make sure the belt is actually being picked up

by the lifter. Usually on the older 500 models. I'm grateful to have learned from

this sight not to use the newer knurled belt on the older machines as they're too

stiff. Almost destroyed the lifter on a 508 trying! Curious about your Kirby now.
