Well first post here but not the fist vacuum I have owned, have always like vacuums, always seem to bring them home when I find them dumped off somewhere. Even if its just to get them going to clean the basement floor.

I had a nice collection of vacuums, one from a worlds fair and the second hoover ever made, but I lost my collection in a fire a few years ago.

I noticed the local thrift store here, had an older kirby in the back and some attachments on the floor, kept waiting for it to come out....never did...as I like to do, go dumpster diving in their dumpster....there she was....tossed in the dumpster....I grabbed it brought it home and then paid 3$ for the accessories on the floor.

It is a model 510, in original condition, original cord, bag, grip, brush and even the belt. The body still even has a shine to it!

It powers on, but the motor turns very slowly, will have to tear into it and look at the brushes and bearings. It does sound soooo cool though!

It will need rebuilding, new roller, new bag etc. If anyone has any spares, let me know! Link to pics below.

Great find....

Hi Jason, Great find there. Especially as it appears to be in original condition. I'm sure it will clean and shine up great.

I'm sorry to hear you lost your original collection in a fire a few years ago. I'm must of been very upsetting to lose not just your vacuums but the other things that was in your home as well.

I hope no one was hurt.

If you replace the original bag and cord make sure you still hold on to the originals.

Nice Kirby Jason. please REPLACE the cord as soon as possible i had thesame thing and wanted to keep the cord i was very lucky it caught Fire i was able to stop it before it did dammage. Other then that it looks like a nice Kirby I love those 500 series Doug

Thanks guys! Yep all the original parts will go into a shoe box for keeping, I was hoping to keep the original bag on it, but it has a few holes aroung the spring.

What a great find! You might try sewing the tears in the bag from the inside using a locking stitch. It's not always real durable, but you can keep the bag on it for fun and show!

Hard to beleive they would throw that away??---What a bunch of AIRHEADS at that swap shop.Think one is waiting for me at the Greenville Sew &Vac-looks like the one shown. The story goes-a woman traded in her Kirby for a Meile canister-part of the agreement between her and Mike was that he was to display the machine in the store for like a year or so before getting rid of it.It already has my name on it.Along with the tools.the one you found is in better shape. Can't wait for the time up!!!Both machines are pretty much like what was bought the year I was born!!Would be a 510 or 511.

Well there is another kirby in the back of the thrift shop, looks like a new power drive model....debating on asking about it, or just waiting to pull it out of the dumpster lol

Okay this little kirby streak is ummm getting kinda strange....So I found a mac G5 in the back of the shop, asked about the price and the other kirby was sitting there and when I walked in, the shampoo attachement was on the floor....so I asked about it....

I now also own a Kirby G4 and a macintosh G5....G6 anyone lol

I paid 10$ for the kirby and 10$ for the attachement...

So loaded that up in the car, and went to browse around more.....whats this, another kirby in the back....AHHHHHHH I didn't ask yet, think I spent most of my free cash....It is brown and there are attachments..

And so people will know, I like in a small town of 8000 people....a kirby streak....is pretty strange...

Kirby owners buy more Kirbys.

When I get one Kirby at a thrift shop, I go to the same one every day for the next couple of days.

I saw a Kirby G3, then a Heritage, then a Sanitronic VII, then a G4, and then a Classic III all in quick succession one month.

I only ended up with the Sanitronic VII though. The G3 had a tech drive problem I didn't know how to fix at the time, they wouldn't price the G4 for me even though I told them I'd pay $35 for it (they put it on the floor for $15,) and then I already had a Classic III.
