Hey all, this week was my week, ive found 2 vacuums i never thought i would ever have in my collection, first ive found an Electrolux Z25 a few days later ive found a kirby model 508 220volts, with all attachments, even the bare floor pad that attach to the vacuum head and the crystallator in the cardboard caddy and the instruction manual for the vacuum cleaner and one for the floor polisher unit. I was wondering the vacuum cleaner needs a headlight globe, is it 12volt like the newer models or will it be 220 volt like the machine? and the motor unit itself is it a 2 speed? I cant notice any change in sound with the hose or the floor attachment. Will post photos soon of both my new vintage vacuums.
Regards Ruan

Hi

Ruan, Congratulations on finding your two new vacs. I'm sure your pleased with them. I also have a 230 volt Kirby 508. It is like all Kirby's made before the Kirby model "Dual Sanitronic 50" and single speed model.

Thanks guys...

I will take photos tomorrow. I wondered who distributed them here in south africa? Still cant believe my luck. It just needs a good buff. When did the shampooer attachment came out? Theres no indication in the instruction manual of the shampooer. The spray attachment was never even used. Unfortunately the cardboard tool caddy have some water damage.

The headlight would be 220 V and it's a single speed motor.
They didn't have a 2 speed motor until the D50 (mid 1960's).
The 12V bulbs didn't start until the G3 where they tapped off the field coil for the 12V.
