Ohhh!

I also Got my Kirby 508 (240 volt) From South Africa.
I can't remember how much it was... I think it cost me about 300 to 500 Rands plus postage to the UK that was quiet expensive as well. Mind you it was about a year or two ago lol so I'm a little foggy on the details lol

So are you got the chance to buy one?

Its still waiting to be restored.

Ummm

Ok I'd be Very intrested in it but not at 9000 rand which is over £800+ or $1300+ lol
I wonder why he thinks its worth that much for??

Look forward to seeing the pics:o)

If i had 9000.00 i would have bought it,i would love such an old kirby.isnt it that model that has an extra smaller bag?i think the vintage kirbys is kind of rare in south africa. i Think 2000 rands would do for that machine.it seems the bag has faded

Yep!

Yep! 2000 rands is much more inline with what its worth.
esp with the handle grip tapped up and the bag being faded.

So is it a shop or auction the kirby is in??
If its a private sale offer 1000 cash.

They might except it.

Keep use infromed with what they say.

I would have to agree that, in my opinion, that's way too much for the machine given its condition. Yes, it's old, but really in just fair condition overall. The faded bag and taped handle are major "presentation" issues. Also the hose, which should be coal-black with vivid red and gold stripes, is rather faded. Then there's the fact that it's not a complete set.

It's 240 volts which does make it rarer than a standard 110v model but even at that, I can't see where it's worth $1300. But, then, I may be wrong--- there may be those to whom it would be worth that amount and would be gladly willing to pay it.

Wish i can find a electrolux Model xxx here in south africa.i love that machines.if i had that kind of money i would have bought that kirby as its strange to see that old kirbys in sa. And i would give anything for a vintage kirby

Ummm

Well you will have to save up and import a Electrolux XXX from the USA. That's what I did. You can run it off a Transformer if you want to use it.

There a great vacuum Cleaner. Very stylish. Just like the kirbys and many other makes and models of that era!!:o)

A number of years ago, I won an Electrolux Model V that came from the Black Forest in Germany. The shipping cost was far higher than the machine but I was certainly glad to have it; especially since, oddly enough, it's a 110v machine!

It took nearly two months for it to arrive due to getting snagged up in Customs. (And this was pre-9/11... I can only imagine what luck it would take to get any sort of electrical apparatus across international borders nowadays.)

The sender declared its value only at the amount of my winning bid -- at our mutual agreement -- since declaring a higher value for insurance purposes would have meant higher tariff charges. The seller promised he would pack it carefully to ensure save arrival, and he did. It's one of the crown jewels of my collection.
