Kirby Derby

I love all of the small nozzle Kirbys,they really made a mistake in late 1969 with the 16 1/2 inch nozzle on the clunky Kirby Classic and didn't trim down again until 1986,in the middle of the production of the Heritage II.

Kirby's are the best I think I love them so!! But they are heavy and bulky I can't hardly pick up my newest one Ultimate G Diamond Edition ( Gee I must be getting weak in my old age) Rolling on the floor laughing, Thank God it's self propelled

I love Kirbys too...

... and that is why I have the comprehensive Kirby section on my site. I do have some "mis-facts" to fix, mostly about the earliest machines, but haven't had time to get in there and clean up.

My site is there for all to enjoy, I just ask that people don't post my stuff other places. I have a particualarly hard time with eBay sellers "borrowing" my photos (to sell THEIR machines - go figure), or putting links to my site in their listings and then watching my bandwidth go through the roof.

I too love Kirbys and I have most of the later models.I am now looking for the "500" series models and the ones before the 500's.Remember a 511 when I was little-my folks bought it in Ohio from a DTD salesman -they were doing their "door Knocking"or "van campaign" as Kirby calls it now.I have done "door Knocking" while selling TriStars.

I don't have many Kirbys, only 3 (which are a 1983 ComVac 1300, 1988 Heritage II Legend w/attachments, Rug Renovator, and Miracle Head brush, and a 1998 G5 w/attachments and Rug Renovator), but I do plan to acquire more older models in the future when I have more room!

I did have a 1980 blue Tradition for a while, talk about a BEAST!

I have all of the "G" sereies Kirbys,and Heritage,Legend and Classic,a 519.My G machines have attachments,the Heritage,Legend,Classic do as well.I am looking for the older 500 sereies machines and 1C.A Kirby salewoman just about got me a nice 1C-but the woman that had it didn't want to give it up.She was trying to get it for me.The Kirby saleswoman said it was in beautiful shape-all of the attachments.The 519 I have doesn't have attachments.A Kirby salesperson got it for me.

Ultimate G Diamond

I purchased it a couple of months ago and I love it. It is the best vacuum I have used for cleaning carpets and lifting the nap. I would rate it comparable to the power nozzle on my MIracle Mate or the Worwek power nozzle. It out performs my Lux 9000 for carpet cleaning that's for sure. Normally I prefer a canister vac because it is more convenient to switch between rug cleaning and above the floor cleaning as I am moving throughout the house. With the Kirby I have to retrace my steps after switching to the above the floor cleaning. I was amazed at how much suction it does have. It is heavy but with the tech drive weight is not a factor. I do wish they made a better rug/floor tool and floor/wall brush. The rug/floor tool doesn't allow for air to circulate when vacuuming on a low pile carpet or the floor so when vacuuming up larger objects (like hard cat food) it tends to push the food away.

hey Gary, I have a diamond edition too I love it I took the brush out of the rug nozzle and put in a softer brush one that goes in a ultimate G or G6 it is a lot softer and not as hard on this berber carpet.The one on the Diamond Edition is too stiff. I know what you mean about the tools being a pain, the tools from the pre G series kirbys were so much nicer. I usually use them instead. But when I need to do a lot of attachment use I use my good old Electrolux... Hope you enjoy your Kirby cause it will last you a very long time... KirbyKid

I also installed the Ultimate G brushroll in my Diamond Edition...The softer brushroll works just as well as the stiff brushroll.
