Kirby Heritage small Nozzel

Craig,

Regarding the small nozzle, don't forget you'll have to use some epoxy clay to make the nodule to jibe with the location of the Heritage's speed switch. Because I know you said that this is not an actual Heritage 13" nozzle but one from a '60s Kirby.

Ben, I added a small screw in to the back of the nozzle I managed to carefully get the right location using another nozzle as a template simply drilled a small hole tapped it and added the screw in works a treat.

Yes Ben handy for when I'm doing the hall way carpet which isn't in the best of condition letting some suction out the machine it doesn't tend to lift the carpet like the other Kirby's do. The smaller 13" nozzle has one too but in green obviously with it being originally a Santronic 80 nozzle, does anybody know why Kirby did away with the suction vent? I have seen Heritages without it and never on anything newer.

Craig,

The Tradition was the first Kirby model since the 515 to not have a suction relief vent plate on the rug nozzle... the very first batch of Traditions produced from 1979 to early 1980 did have the plate, but around that spring the vent was done away with.

A few Heritage 1HD 13" nozzles also had the air vent, too... but as the nozzle option was rare, I predict only a handful of those got out with the vent.

Ben, This particular Kirby Has been In our family since new, My Mother and Father brought it a few month's before I was born, this is the machine that gave me my childhood love of Kirby's when growing up. When I was old enough I got my own H1 I do know that this one didn't have the vent on the nozzle. A few year ago I took the original family Heritage back as my mother struggled with it and I have recently sold my second H1 to a family member in Scotland, I have asked my mother and She is certain that the relief valve was on it when purchased new in 1981, so could this nozzle be left over factory stock modified to fit H1s ?

Craig,

I can only wonder if you'll start thinking about making a 13" wide Classic III and/or Tradition nozzle?

In this case, however, you'll have to use epoxy clay or some other material to lengthen the one lug that jibes with the arm of the speed switch used on these two models and the Classic Omega.

Craig,

And when you do try to use some clay on the one lug, you should use just the right amount of that clay, just enough to make the switch arm travel down enough to turn the machine on with the low speed intended for cleaning carpets.

Craig,

I meant that if you ever make a 13" wide Classic III or Tradition nozzle, you actually have to make a lug that, when looking at the back side of the nozzle, should be just to the right of the left attaching bar lug.

I made a picture of what you'd do to find the exact spot for the JB Weld. The black spot shows where you'd make the lug. The groove for the pseudo attaching bar should line up exactly with the two other attaching lugs.

Craig,

I have acquired a real 13" Heritage II nozzle from Mark David Faryniak (marks_here) this past August. The brush roll that came with it isn't exactly in great shape, though; and even the belt was wrong since the roll isn't of the right construction for it.
