I am looking to add another Kirby vacuum to my collection as a daily driver. I would prefer to have one with a disposable bag because this one is going to the location with dog hair.

Basically I am looking to find out which Kirby would be best for a completely carpeted house except kitchen that is really good with dog hair.

I am currently deciding if the Heritage II or the G3 would be better.

I would also be open to any other ideas for this but I don't want to get too new.

John, I really appreciate the offer, but I was looking for information to see which Kirby would be the best for doing much carpeting with dog hair and carpeted steps.

I will decide on a machine soon though because I would really like to get one, I just don't know which machine yet.

For carpeted spaces, you can't go wrong with either of those Kirbys. I had a Heritage I and liked it pretty well. It's well designed and actually takes less energy to push than you might think, given its bulk. My girlfriend "borrowed" it about four years ago and still has it. I guess the only way I'll ever get it back is if I were to marry her. I've also got three G-series Kirbys (a G5 and two Gsixes) and love them. The tech drive makes them move like a dream. Where both of these machines fall short is on steps. They're just so darned heavy, it would be a serious workout doing steps with them. That's why when I was living in a two-story townhouse a few years ago, I kept the Gsix on the ground floor and the Heritage upstairs (until my girlfriend borrowed it) and used my Electrolux 1205 on the stairs. The Electrolux became the upstairs machine after the Heritage went to live with my girlfriend.

How about some numbers...

Jesse,

My Heritage II Legend weighs 19 lbs. and my G4 (very similar to a G3) weighs 23 lbs. BUT the Tech Drive makes all the difference when using them. In my test lab, the Heritage II Legend took 3 lbs. of force to push forward on medium pile carpet, while my G4 only took 2.08 lbs. to push forward. I have very similar flooring installed as you do. I have about 1500 square feet of carpet between the first and second floors and the rest in the kitchen/bathroom areas totals around 700 square feet of linoleum.

I also have a 2 year old boxer with obviously short hair. Both machines will pick up dog hair with no issues.

I can easily do the entire house with the G4 and not feel worn out at all. If I want a bit of a workout, the Heritage II fits that bill quite readily.

I'd say either one would be great. If you want easier to push get a G-3 if you want more rugged and a little less maintenance get the Heritage. The G3 sometimes can have some issues with the transmission but by now most of them out there have been serviced and bugs worked.

Heritage

I decided that I am going to go with the Heritage I. Does anyone know where I can get one with attachments and rug renovator in good condition.

Please leave me know. Pictures would be very helpful!

Any Kirby will do

I'm using a Classic III with paper bag setup. I changed to the four row brush roll. Big difference. Absolutely no problem with a German Shepherd and two cats. The problem I have is a wife with LONG HAIR. No way to work around.

I hear you on the long hair. My girlfriend has long hair and she periodically complains that the Heritage I she 'borrowed' from me a few years ago has stopped picking up. Invariably, the brush roll is completely encased in hair.

What is my best option

I am not sure what I should do. I am definitely getting one of the Heritage models. I am not sure if I should go for a Heritage I or a Heritage II.

Thanks for everyone's help
