Kirby Heritage 84- removing emptor?

I took the bag off my H84 and would like to remove and clean the emptor (or is it emtor?) before I attach a new fill tube to it. I tried pulling it towards myself and up like with my Kirby G3/5 but it doesn't want to move. Any tricks?

grab hold of the base of the emtor, hold the top, and pull the base out away from the motor with all your strength, sometimes the rubber gaskets can get a bit stuck, so they need some muscle applying...

The emtor is attached in a similar way to the G series, only it operates on the vertical axis (I.E. up & down), whereas the G series is on the horizontal axis (I.E. Side to side)...

so you are saying it comes off the same way as a Kirby Classic or Tradition? On the H84 is it made of metal, or some sort of plastic with a coating or something? Just don't want to crack anything.

Yes, it's the same as the Classic and Tradition, and don't worry, it's painted aluminium, so little chance of breaking it, unless you use a tow truck or something to release it...

The emptor is always a bitch to remove, especially on a secondhand machine where it hasn't been off since the Nixon administration. I honestly wonder how many Kirby owners even know it comes off -judging by the secondhand Kirbys I've taken posession of over the years, not all of them even know it's a thing to empty, so I can't imagine many of those chuckleheads know it comes off!

Right on that, Red_October,

All those years of no Emptor checking often results in a nice collection of loose change and finishing nails. I guess if an Emptor gets full enough, does that debris start getting back-fed, knocked around by the fan, and into the bag? Have yet to see that.

I got it off...

Used a little dish soap where the 3 grooves are and tipped it on it's side. Waited 10 min and it broke free! (Glad I didn't resort to using any oil!)
