Kirby g6 lock help urgent!

The powerhead on my Kirby g6 fits very loosely and the carpet shampooer balls off completely so I thought it was the lock I tried to take it off and when
it came off it was stripped so my question is can I get a short machine screws from the hardware store and use that or will it have to be a special order part

I just need it to function Its very annoying and I haven't been able to use the carpet shampooer since I've had it because of this issue the lock is all that I can think of that would cause it to be loose and fall off upon putting the belt on cost is also a factor

It may or may not have been bad.......

The nozzle locks do not screw on. They have been hammered from the back to flatten the end to hold it in place. There are procedures on goodvac.com to do this. They also might have a short video. This is not something I would take on....If you can afford one, they sell them complete or sometimes you can find a used one cheaper...on ebay. You may also need a new gasket for the front. They are self sticking, but the hard part is getting the old one off. They are very inexpensive to buy...You can also buy the nozzle lock and pin if you can do it yourself....
be sure to seal the fan case to the kirby when reinstalling. They have procedures for that as well.

confused?

I'm not understanding how its hammered from the rear of the fan casing when it has a screw head? also iv been able to threads it in a little. a video or diagram would be helpful these Kirby's are great dependable vacs but when they break why are they so hard to service I've been able to replace almost every part on my hoovers and Oreck's etc. but I've always had a problem with the Kirby's wither it be striping screws or this problem. after going to the hardware store I relies its a specific part and after looking on goodvac they've said the fan casing may be bad as well a not cheap part.

The Kirby lock lever screw was NEVER meant to be removed. Ever. It was installed at the factory as a 'forever' part. When the VCCC went to Kirby, back when the G5 was the brand new machine, one of our Club members asked about this very thing when we were at the rebuild department. There's a special machine they use to install the lock lever screw - unfortunately you'll either wind up buying a new (or used) fan case OR you'll wind up rigging it (but not satisfactorily).

Then why to they sell replacement lock screws? I guess that's what I get for monkeying around where I ought not be everything looks good just needs its lock screw back in place

If you want it to work right, then just break down and get a new fancase cover.


You can get them used on ebay, but you don't know how worn that lock lever is. If it were me, I would just get a new fancase cover.

although I didn't want to replace the fan casing I suppose its my best bet. is this a easy thing to do? and how long should it take

It should take approximately 15-30 minutes to replace your fancase cover.

Since you will be removing the fancase cover, it is an excellent opportunity to inspect your fan and replace it as well.
