A friend who has a Kirby G5 was telling me that it's become very hard to push and pull when the motor isn't running. I told her I'd see if I could find out a solution for her. I imagine it has something to do with the power drive these machines have, but I am not at all familiar with newer Kirbys so I don't really know. Any info I could pass on to her would be much appreciated. She's talking about getting a Shark Bagless stick-vac instead, because the Kirby is too hard to use.......

Definitely make sure she has disengaged the TechDrive by depressing the N pedal underneath the power switch.

If you are able, it might be good karma for you to go and check it out.  I've heard of an elderly lady who tried to push a powered-off Kirby with the TechDrive engaged.  She broke her knees from pushing so hard.  Yikes!  What a terrible impression of Kirby she would be left with!
