This machine was at my friends thrift store in Plano for the past 6 months and was given to me yesterday for its final disposition. I had thought it was a G6 but it is a G4. Pretty much the same thing mechanically.

It can be the basis of a nice vacuum or a good parts unit. What you see is what you get. It was partially converted to a shampooer and rest of the parts are long gone. So no bag/emtor, attachments, or nozzle.

Runs and drives very well, shifts smoothly. No squeaks, rattles, or abnormal noises (after I removed a penny and nail from the fan case). Headlight works. No major damage or scratches.
Unit needs a good cleaning and will polish up well with some elbow grease. I did a small section on top - a minute with Mother's made a huge improvement.
Current draw is normal, switches work well, cord has no damage.
The tape on the handle is to secure the backing plate as the screw that holds it on had fallen out.

Free to a member in the area if he or she can come pick it up from east Plano.
Shipping the whole unit may not be cost efficient but I can quote it to your zip code if desired.
If no interest in the whole unit, I will be willing to strip it for parts at low costs plus shipping.

I already have a parts unit G6 so do not need this one also. Would like to see it gone soon due to lack of space.
Thanks!

Yes, I'm interested. What I need is the main motor unit. I have all other parts, rug nozzle, bag, etc.,

I live in the White Mountains of Arizona, near the New Mexico border.

Thanks.

Kirby G-4.

I do not need the handle, as I already have one. Besides, it might be a problem to ship. I just upgraded for 30 days so you can message me here.

Thanks again.

texaskirbyguy.

I just saw the restoration pics of the G-4 in the first pic. you sent privately. They are stunning. Please share the restoration Pics with the members, they won't believe it's the same machine. Yes, it will be my second daily driver, but strictly for the carpets. For all other cleaning the Electrolux LX.

Alex, your G4 'power plant' will be heading out to you tomorrow after work. I just got it all boxed up and ready to go.

This thing was used a lot with the shampooer and was definitely rode hard and put away wet. The resulting deep stains would not buff out all the way with my equipment, but for a daily driver it looks very nice. Motor is healthy and has very little wear, so it should last you a good while. The grey fan was developing the usual stress cracks so it was replaced with a new white fan.
I passed a complete battery of tests with no problem.

I have also included the cord, shampooer tank, both plastic parts from the handle, and a NOS shampooer hose you can have as a spare, as I have too many of them.
The metal part of the handle just would not fit in the box, but that part is the least likely to break.

Some pictures are below, taken in the same place and same lighting for comparison with the 'before' pics. Quite a difference to say the least...
I hope you enjoy it.

Runs like a top, purrs like a kitten.

Thank you, Rob, just gave it a test run on the bedroom carpet and sounds like a Kirby should. No squeaks, only that nice Kirby hum of the motor. And no-more the sound of a freight train as I wheel it from the closet in the kitchen.

To say I'm happy is an understatement! To think it was once used as a shampooer, it's now a thing of beauty. You did a fantastic job, and later today I'll take pictures to prove it.

Hey Alex,
Glad to know you are enjoying your 'new' G4. It felt good putting years of new life into it and not putting it out front for the scrappers.
I knew there was a jewel under that top crusty layer and glad you saw it. Despite not all of the stains coming out, it still looks great for a driver, its perfect use.
Glad to have helped you out, saved a good machine, and cleaned my garage out a tad.
